O Dia do Livro é comemorado no dia 23 de abril em homenagem ao 
falecimento de três grandes escritores: William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes e 
Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Essa data foi instituída pela UNESCO em 1995 com o 
objetivo de promover a leitura, a publicação e a proteção da propriedade intelectual. 
A leitura é de extrema importância para o desenvolvimento cognitivo, 
emocional e social de qualquer indivíduo. 
Coesamente a leitura é uma 
fonte de conhecimento, imaginação, 
empatia e reflexão, além de ser uma 
forma de entretenimento. Através da 
leitura, é possível viajar para lugares 
distantes, conhecer diferentes culturas, 
expandir o vocabulário e aprimorar a 
capacidade de comunicação. 
Além disso, a leitura também pode ser uma aliada no desenvolvimento da 
criatividade e da resiliência. Quando lemos, nos deparamos com personagens que 
enfrentam desafios e situações adversas, o que nos ajuda a entender melhor as 
dificuldades que enfrentamos na vida real. 
Por todas essas razões, é importante que as pessoas tenham acesso a livros e 
sejam incentivadas a ler desde cedo. 
A leitura pode ajudar a formar cidadãos mais críticos, 
conscientes e engajados, capazes de compreender 
melhor o mundo em que vivem e de contribuir para uma 
sociedade mais justa e igualitária.
