O povo de Deus queria ser como as demais nações e, por isso, desejou ter um rei.
Saul foi o escolhido por Deus para o cargo.
Todavia, ele desobedeceu ao Senhor e, como consequência de sua desobediência, foi rejeitado por Deus.

Seu fim não foi tão bom quanto o seu início, por causa da desobediência.
Por isso, o conselho de Samuel continua atual: “[…] o obedecer é melhor do que o sacrificar […]” (1 Sm 15.22, ARC).
