Past perfect reported speech
Past perfect
You use it for actions that happened before other actions in the past.
This means that usually when you have a sentence in past perfect, you also have one in simple past.
For example:
I had taken a shower before I went to school.
When I arrived to the movie theater, the movie had already started.

Reported speech
Reported or indirect speech is used when we want to tell somebody what another person said.
We often use the verbs said or told when using reported speech.
Said is used either without an object, or with an object followed by to. For example: He said that he had visited his mother. / He said to me that he had visited his mother.
Told is always used with an object. For example: He told me that he had visited his mother.
Reported speech
When using reported speech, we need to change the verbs and pronouns of the original sentences.
