Atualmente, muitas pessoas utilizam as redes sociais para compartilhar fotos e vídeos pessoais, assim como para promover empreendimentos sociais e comerciais. Nesse contexto, é bastante comum a utilização de filtros criativos e, principalmente, filtros de beleza.

Esses filtros são efeitos digitais gerados com tecnologias de reconhecimento facial e realidade aumentada que modificam a aparência das pessoas, alterando a textura e o tom da pele, bem como o formato do rosto, do nariz e dos lábios e, também, a cor do cabelo e dos olhos, além de muitas outras características.

Embora os filtros de redes sociais possam ser divertidos e criativos, é importante usá-los de maneira responsável, uma vez que ajudam a reproduzir e perpetuar padrões estéticos, muitas vezes, irreais e inalcançáveis. Além disso, a exposição constante a imagens editadas por filtros pode causar diversos transtornos de imagem, como o Transtorno Dismórfico Corporal (TDC) e a Dismorfia das Selfies.
