International Online School of Analytical Drawing 4 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtLET'S GREETINGS Hello! T hank you very much for finding the strength and opportunity to buy and start reading this book. I very much hope that it can help you in solving your problems or at least give you some hints. I wish you great creative success. Thank you again and all the best to you. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 5WORDS FROM MY WIFE t wasn't love at first sight. It was much deeper than that. Rim is a unique and very rare man with a vision of the world and a worldview that delights, surprises and attracts once and for all. We met at the time his mother died, which I found out about a month after her death and was discouraged by how easygoing and positive Rim was. He didn't go into a depression. Subsequently, I understood why. He was creating, creating, drawing. After years of married life together, I realize that his drawing from the age of 3 is a unique ability to self-develop 24/7, to see the world from his angle of reality and to create his reality as well. He's special. And the way he teaches people to draw is much broader, it's not about drawing lessons - it's a way of seeing the world and the reality around you from different angles. It's like looking at a situation or looking at a life lesson. Rim teaches the ability to create your own vision of the world, a vision of the situation. And that would be cooler than any psychotherapy or training session. I'll tell you from my own experience. Sometimes I need hours-long sessions with a coach or psychotherapist, while for Rim it is enough to draw and teach and he already produces the results of processing and self-development in record time, unlike me. We have three children. And I thank the Creator, the Universe, myself and my husband for our family. Through the development of creative imagination, artistic vision - we give our children knowledge. Knowledge is a choice. Choice is freedom, self-realization, happiness, harmony. I am happy for Rim's students, because I know what they feel after learning and communicating with him - a wide span of wings behind their backs, an understanding that responsibility for their lives is not a burden, responsibility is a gift. I have always been drawn to Rim's broad shoulders, and learning about his sense of the world, I understand why he has them: they are an extension of his wings, a International Online School of Analytical Drawing 6 www.rim-art.ru Rim-Artfoundation upon which all of his work, teaching, and mentoring is based. A teacher can't be any different. And what a father he is, mmmmm. I made the most important choice of my life. Man, husband, father, teacher, mentor, sensei, sage. is incredibly erudite and well-read. The number of books he reads is fascinating. And among those books are scholarly ones about health, anatomy, physiology, parenting, business, scientific developments, lifestyle, philosophy. reads most of these books to his sons before bedtime. This book is the quintessence of his knowledge, his particular approach, his method of simplifying the lives of creative people, artists, designers, creators. His legacy. His mission is to pass on knowledge. I love you, Rim, I thank you for all our journey. And I wish the reader that the puzzle is put together, the wings spread and you move towards your dream-goal with the understanding that on your way there will be a lot of happiness, a lot of interesting and, most importantly, choice and freedom. Ksenia Umyarova-Ignatieva / Instagram: @qsenia_info International Online School of Analytical Drawing 7 www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art"DRAWING IT IS JUST A TOOL". RIM UMYAROV T he purpose of this book is to develop volumetric-spatial thinking, develop memory and imagination. At the same time - to understand the basics of the laws of perspective, light and shadow, to study basic human proportions, to analyze and begin to apply the rules of composition. In a nutshell - to become an artist, to be able to draw not only paintings but also your own life. It's a big, complicated goal! But I sincerely believe that it is possible. The important thing is to take the first step - to start. I myself went to art school, or rather, even two, at university, in various online and courses in drawing. It was great there, they taught me well! But I often lacked an explanation, an understanding: why should draw at all? What happens in the process of drawing? Why do people draw at all? How does it affect life? And I certainly did not hear a word about how I could or would I ever be able to earn money with the knowledge I acquired. I think if you get to the bottom of these questions, the learning will become clean, clear, understandable and there will be meaning, awareness. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 8This book was created as a print version of my online course "Analytical Drawing. Basics," and I really hope it will help you analyze and understand drawing and start using it 100%. At the end of each topic in this book, there will be homework assignments for independent work. Doing these homework assignments is extremely important. Only practice, constant repetition and exercises can reinforce theory. Information is not enough to own, it is necessary to use, apply and train, so the "homework" must be done, and no excuses. So: my name is Rim and my last name is Umyarov. I am the author and teacher of the course "Analytical Drawing. Basics", I started with it, because I am very glad that this course works and is popular, it is really important for me, because I am sure that I am changing the world for the better. Of course I consider myself an artist, I am also a designer, architect, member of the Russian Union of Designers, author of books, and I am also a artist, airbrush artist and international tattoo artist, several times was a judge at international art I was born in small town Shakhrisabz (about 40 thousand people) in 1982. I started drawing when I was about 3-5 years old, like most kids. It passes for many, but at the age of 7, thanks to my mother, I decided it was my vocation. I used all my free time to practice and drew everything I saw, it became a habit. In our house there were always drawings on the walls drawn by my mother, although she was not a professional artist, rather self-taught, but that didn't stop her from doing some drawings sometimes and some of them adorned the walls in the living room. Of course, watching these drawings, I thought that drawing was part of life, it was the norm. Now I realize that it was my mother's drawings that gave me my rst understanding, were my first steps in the world of drawing. And am eternally grateful to my mother for that. Now I am 42 years old, I have a beloved wife Qsenia, two sons: Amir and Russell Roy, and am the happy father of my beautiful daughter Santi. Our whole family loves to travel the world and try to enjoy life every day. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 9 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtOur love of travel isn't just expressed in dreams. We actually drive, fly, walk, and sail around the world. Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, the United States of America, Cyprus, Sri Lanka, Turkey and many other countries. Of course, this has a great effect on my outlook. I think any person begins to change if he travels, and change in the direction of expanding its consciousness. Among other things I graduated from two art schools, university (I am an Architect by profession), I studied for about two years before university, taking personal lessons of my deeply respected teacher Valery Alexandrovich Melnikov, who, I believe, had a great influence on my life. After university, I took many online courses for a total of about two years. And to this day I love to read, watch, learn anything new and, especially, dif?cult to understand! For several years I worked as an architect and before that as an advertising designer. But the real pleasure and pure emotion I get exactly from drawing and teaching! I think that's the end of my story. If it will be interesting, my works in all the above- mentioned spheres, namely: graffiti, tattoo, etc. - You can easily find on the internet if you just type in my name and surname in the search engine. Before this book my two previous books were published (only 100 copies each): "Draw, not copy. Create, not copy" and "Sketchbook 2020-2021". The book you are now holding in your hands was a merged and expanded version of the previous two, as after studying the feedback and feedback from readers, I came to the conclusion that this would be more convenient. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 10LESSON 1 TWO SKILLS D rawing, for me, is the artist's ability to create something new, to invent, to fantasize, and then to be able to draw the invented as realistically and believably as possible. In this book, we will develop two skills: 1 - memory and imagination, 2 - hand placement, understanding perspective, light and shadow, and the laws of composition. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 11UMYAROV International Online School of Analytical Drawing RimUMYAROVImagination, as I see it, is the same skill as pulling up on a crossbar, and this skill can and should be practiced and developed. But in order to start inventing, you have to have "construction material" for your fantasies. It is impossible to come up with something out of nothing. Simply put, if your head is empty, nothing new can be born there, no bricks to build a house. On the other hand, if your "library of images" is regularly replenished, very soon your memory will have enough source material to create something new. These images are like Lego pieces: with enough of them, you can assemble anything! International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 141 2 3 4 ADDING TO YOUR LIBRARY OF IMAGES AND HOMEWORK I f you draw 10-20 detailed sketches from life every day, common objects of your home or any objects from your environment: a telephone, a TV remote control, a mug, a plate, a pillow, etc. - then your brain will remember these objects, and thus you will begin to fill your "Image Library" with more and more images. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 15 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtEach time you draw something, and you draw it exactly in "detail" (perspective, shadows, etc. are not particularly important at this stage, it is important to draw in detail), fixing every detail of the object of drawing - your memory works and remembers, besides the visual memory is also connected and the mechanical and tactile one. This is important because if you draw without detail, that's how your brain will remember - without detail! When we doodle, we make our mind pay attention to details and automatically remember them; we are also involving our physical memory, our hand memory, in addition to our visual memory. It is a very important exercise. Doing it every day for, for example, a year or two or five, you will replenish your "Image Library" with a huge number of new objects. Get your memory working, and this is important, because if you have something, but you don't use it or use it infrequently, chances are that "it" will begin to fall into disrepair. Also, your hand, and you along with it, will begin to feel the paper and pencil. It should become a habit. So, the first homework assignment for memory training and replenishing the "Image Library": take an ordinary sheet of A4 paper, divide it into four equal parts and in each part draw one object from your home. Again, draw with detail - this is important. You need to make at least four pieces of A4 paper a day. That is 4x4=16 sketches a day. You can see from the example that there are no shadows or special constructions in this exercise. It is important to try to capture all the details and teach your brain to remember and pay attention to the little things. Make every effort and patience, it will be uncomfortable at ?rst, but trust me: it's worth it. The second part of this exercise is to teach the brain to remember what we remembered in the previous part of the exercise. It would be strange to only be able to remember and not be able to recall. So, the second part of the homework: after one hour or more (it is important to take a break to let the information "settle down" in your memory) after you with detailed sketches, take a new sheet of A4 and try to draw four of any objects from those that you drew an hour ago by MEMORY. Draw these four objects as detailed as your memory will allow. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you remember. At this point, we are teaching our brain how to retrieve information from memory. This part of the exercise is just as important as the previous one, please treat it very carefully. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 16 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtTotal: Every day you need to draw 16 objects from nature and at least one hour after that four objects from memory from the previous 16, all together - 20 sketches a day. It is one of the main pillars on which visual perception is based. With perspective, we understand what's closer and what's farther away. Once you understand how perspective works, you take the technical part of drawing to the next level. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 21Again, perspective is a very important piece in drawing, and therefore in shaping three-dimensional thinking. Of the great many types of perspective, we'll look at just the most common and commonly used. Every perspective starts with the horizon line. Simply put: the horizon line is the line that appears where the sky and the ground meet. The horizon line has a peculiarity: it is always at the level of the beholder's eyes, in other words, each person's horizon line is at the level of his eyes. People of different height looking at the same object will see it from different angles, because everyone will have different location of the horizon line, and the object will be either under or over the horizon line. The one below will see the object from below, the one above will see the same object from above. And that is why understanding the location of the horizon line is extremely important. Now let's go directly to the analysis of perspective types. PATREON PATREON FRONT PATREON THE International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 22LINE ONE-POINT PERSPECTIVE T he first type of perspective is called "one-point perspective. It is so named because it has only one vanishing point. The vanishing point is not always, but often (especially for training) on the horizon, and the parallel lines of your drawing tend to this point. All other lines, horizontal and vertical, are simply parallel, and there are no vanishing points of their own in this type of perspective. This type of perspective is difficult to use for all of your drawings, because it is not quite right for that, to put it mildly, it is not quite realistic. In real life, we see the world differently with our eyes. Usually all lines tend to some point of convergence, and there are no parallel lines, or rather there are, but we don't perceive them as such. We need to know more about this type of perspective for information and for an initial understanding of the basic principles of perspective. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 23 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtV.P. 1 V.P.2 TWO-POINT PERSPECTIVE T he next type is the two-point perspective. This is probably the most popular type of perspective. This type of perspective differs from the previous one in that it has a second vanishing point, which you probably already figured out from the name. You've probably also noticed that one-point perspective is more suitable for depicting objects that we're looking at exactly at right angles. And if we want to draw something in a more complex perspective, that's where two-point perspective comes in. Take a rectangular box as an example. Our box has all faces divided into three parallelism directions: height, width, and depth (these are figurative names, and they can be replaced with length, width, height, etc.). In a two-point perspective, all of the width faces tend to convergence point number one, all of the length faces tend to convergence point number two, and the height remains just vertical, and all of the vertical lines are just parallel to each other without a convergence point. Note that I have color-coded the faces that tend to different vanishing points. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 24This type of perspective is already more similar to the truth, but in connection with the fact that the verticals do not tend anywhere (just parallel), and this in real life is not, then this type of perspective, as well as the previous, I propose to use only for training! PATREON PATREON International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 25V.P. 3 V.P. HORIZON 2 V.P. V.P. 3 THREE-POINT PERSPECTIVE T his is actually my favorite type of perspective and the one I use the most. Using this type of perspective, you can get work that looks really realistic and authentic, three-dimensional. Like the previous one, it has a horizon line and two vanishing points on the right and left, but it also has an extra vanishing point for the vertical lines. It is interesting that the third point can be above or below the horizon line, i.e. it is "floating". International Online School of Analytical Drawing Rim-Art 26 www.rim-art.ruWhere the third point will be depends on how you want to represent your object: from top to bottom or from bottom to top. You ?rst have to decide from where you are looking at your chair, for example. I'll show you an example - I drew it just using three-point perspective and, as you can see, it looks pretty good. In fact, I use this type of perspective for 90% of my work. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 27 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtV.P. 1 V.P. HORIZON V.P. V.P. 2 V.P. 4 CURVILINEAR PERSPECTIVE N ext, let's talk about the phenomenon of curvilinear perspective. This is the most spectacular type of perspective, but at the same time the most rarely used. In this diagram, I have tried to show just the idea of this type of perspective. So we already have vanishing points! Yes, that's a lot, but don't be alarmed, these points are more formal and are just for the sake of example. The whole point of this perspective is that the guide lines are curved. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 28In real life, you can see this perspective if you look through the most common door peephole. A special wide-angle lens is installed there. Also, many phones have a photography mode called "wide angle" or something similar. Study the example and think it will become clear to you how it works. These are all the kinds of perspectives I wanted to touch on within this book. Once again, understanding and applying the laws of perspective will take your work to the next level. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 292 HOMEWORK D raw 10 cubes of equal size on A4 paper in a two-point perspective. Do this exercise until you can draw 10 cubes. Here you need to pay attention to the word: "cube". Remember, a cube has all sides equal, and that is what distinguishes a cube from a simple rectangle. Why am I emphasizing cubes Because a cube is a basic ?gure and by learning to draw a cube, you can later "put" anything you want into that cube. Try to draw your own cubes rather than copying mine. If you get something similar or better, that's great. In my example, the cubes are very close to the cubes, but not perfect. That level is enough to get the point, but if your cubes turn out even more cubic, my respect to you! International Online School of Analytical Drawing 30 www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art+ + CUBE + + + + LET ME TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW I DISTINGUISH BETWEEN A CUBE AND NOT A CUBE T he location of the cube in space relative to the axis between the vanishing points is important. You also have to constantly think about which face is closest to us, most turned toward us, and that will be the longest, and all other faces will be shorter, because this reduction in size is the main effect of applying perspective. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 31 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtTo achieve a good result it is necessary to draw not less than 500 cubes in different angles and in different locations in space in relation to vanishing points and the horizon line within about one month. It is the cubes that are the foundation of all the basics, so give them your utmost attention. BASIC FIGURES OF ROTATION: CYLINDER, CONE, AND SPHERE K nowing and understanding the formation of cubes and bodies of rotation is important because almost any object can be imagined as a combination of these shapes "glued" together. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 36International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art Bodies of rotation are called bodies of rotation because they appear as a result of rotation around their axis of some "contour". For example, to get a sphere, you have to rotate a "semicircular arc" around its axis. For a cone, a "corner." And so on. Let's look at a complex object. A human head! If you take away the details, you can see that it is a combination of a sphere, a cut cone, a cylinder, and originally it can all be depicted as a rectangular box. Understanding the shaping of basic, simple shapes and being able to put them in perspective will give you absolute freedom to draw. Don't even doubt it. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 37 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtInternational Online School of Analytical Drawing CUTS Rim-Art I www.rim-art.ru SAME TOP FROM TOOVAL Constructing ovals is of the utmost importance in shaping rotational shapes. To understand the oval as a you need to know that the oval in this case is a circle, which we depict in perspective. An important piece of the attached diagram I have signed, "top view". Notice the red segments between the corners of the square and the circle. The length of these segments are the same at all corners! In the top view this is obvious! But most people forget this when they draw this same circle in perspective as an oval, and a distortion occurs. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 38V 2 International Online School of Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art Yes, in perspective this size is not 100% the same: the corners of the square that are slightly further away or at a angle from us are a little smaller, but only a little! It would be a mistake to draw these dimensions drastically different. Look at the following drawing: I've marked the erroneous representation of the circles (ovals) in perspective with a red cross and the more accurate one with a green checkmark. Practice drawing ovals. Remember that ovals are circles inscribed in squares, but we're not looking at them exactly from above, but at a different angle and they look like ovals. Now let's back up a bit and break down the process of drawing an oval step by step. To draw an oval, you have to do the following steps: International Online School of Analytical Drawing 39 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtInternationa Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art The ?rst is to ?nd the geometric center of our square, to do this it is enough to draw diagonals from the corners, and at the intersection of the diagonals we will get the geometric center. Second - using this center, we can ?nd the center of each face by drawing a line parallel to the adjacent faces through the center. Finding the center of each face is very important for constructing an oval. Because it is at these points that the oval will touch our square. Third, using these points, you need to draw an oval. Remember again, do not forget about the distance between the oval and the corners of the square - they must be close to the same. International Online School of Analytical Drawing Rim-Art 40 www.rim-art.ruDRAWING A CYLINDER AND A CONE D raw a box. It doesn't have to be a cube, it can be elongated in height or length, but it has to be square in section! This is important because our cylinder has a circle in the cross section, and the circle, as we remember, is inscribed in a square. The next step is to draw ovals on the two opposite square planes of our box, the previous paragraph will help us here. Then connect the ovals with tangent lines and our cylinder is done! Exactly the same steps are done to build a cone, but to ?nd the top of the cone we don't need an oval, just ?nd the center of the upper plane of the box and connect it with tangent lines to the oval which is the base of our cone. SPHERE W e draw a cube. Then we cut our cube in three planes along the axes. Twice vertically and once horizontally. Always exactly in the center. In each cut we build an oval. We should have three ovals (in my example, which you have already seen above, I have marked them with different colors). These are the three ovals that make up our sphere. The ?nal step is to circle all three ovals with a smooth tangent line. If you're still wondering what a tangent line is, I'll tell you: a tangent line is a line that only touches the object, but does not intersect it. Technically, our bodies of rotation are ready. But to fully and, if I may say so, "freely" construct these we will need to practice. A lot of practice is needed and extremely desirable every day. It is necessary to bring drawing of ovals and rotation ?gures in any angles to automatism. Otherwise you will be distracted from drawing by thoughts of constructions. Understanding these shapes is an important moment in the life of any beginning artist. It is with understanding and constructing simple geometric shapes that it all begins. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 41 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtInternational Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art International Online School of Analytical Drawing Rim-Art 42 www.rim-art.ruHOMEWORK D raw all three ?gures of rotation in perspective, at least two or three different angles of each In addition, it is very important to mold these three ?gures + a cube of plasticine! The molding is necessary for a deeper understanding and analysis of the volume. The recommended size for molding is about the size of a large walnut. The most important thing: In this exercise do not use anything other than your no table, no stacks, not even your palms. Just your By using your you get the most out of the shape. International Online School of Analytical Drawing Rim-Art 43 www.rim-art.ruIn my example, the I molded digitally, that is, three-dimensional models, not real plasticine. I intentionally attach the digital versions to show you that I recommend that you switch to 3D sculpting software in the future. I'll talk about this in more detail a little later. But in the beginning, it is very important to use your and real plasticine! UMYAROV International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru I Rim-Art 46TIME N let's talk a little bit about another point that seems unimportant at Irst glance - time management. In order to achieve any result, you need discipline; you have to do the exercises every day until you get them to the point of automatism. Many people mistakenly think that if they do a couple of sketches a day, it's already good and will lead to a good result, but from my experience, I truly believe that this is not enough. International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.ru Rim-Art 47You need to work hard, you need to draw every day, you need to draw a lot and a little more. This is how and only this way you can achieve a level increase. Most importantly, don't feel sorry for yourself, don't indulge yourself. Draw at every opportunity. Create your own opportunities. Carry a notebook and a pencil, carry an iPad and a stylus. I know you have work, school, kids and lots to do, I live on this planet too))). Allocate time for drawing and sculpting at least 30 minutes a day, and the best option is about 2 hours. Drawing will have a positive impact on your life and, as a result, on the lives of your loved ones. Take it up and do it! Drawing is a tool, a tool to pump yourself up. L Shadows are divided into two types: intrinsic and incidental. Own shadows appear on the object itself on the shadow side, that is, the surface of the object itself is not illuminated, in shadow. International Online School of Analytical Drawing 49 www.rim-art.ru Rim-ArtFalling shadows are cast by the object itself on other objects or on itself, this too happens when the object has a complex Let's start with falling shadows, since you can usually build your own shadows based on falling shadows as well. Basic concepts: object and object projection. I think we don't need to explain what an object is, but a projection is something that needs to be explained. In simple words: projection is the outline of an object projected onto a plane. It's still complicated International Online School of Analytical Drawing www.rim-art.
