Use comma to: a- prevent a confused, ambiguous reading: Ex.: I do not care for (because) money isn`t everything. I do not care, for (because) money isn`t everything. b- Separate two main clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction: Ex.: We tried to leave, but it was impossible. c- Separate elements in a series: Ex.: Reading, swimming, dancing and playing computer games are my favorite activities. d- Separate contrast elements: Ex.: He`s angry, not sad. e- Separate direct quotation: Ex.: “But”, he asked, “what if they refuse?” f- Set off an appositive: Ex.: They want us, you and me, to go. g- Set off a nonrestrictive modifier: Ex.: The President of the United States, who is both the chief of state and the leader of his party, holds one of the most powerful offices in the world.
