Time
20 minutes
Preparation
Duplicate one copy of the worksheet for each student.
Procedure
1. Tell students they are going to guess what their partner
did or didn’t do last weekend. To model the activity,
ask students to guess what you did or didn’t do last
weekend. Elicit a few ideas and write them on the board,
for example: You watched a basketball game on TV.
You shopped online. You didn’t call your mother. Then
tell students which guesses were correct. Correct the
information in the wrong guesses, for example: I didn’t
watch a basketball game on TV. I watched a movie with
my family.
2. Put students in pairs and distribute worksheets. Each
student receives one worksheet. Have students read the
sentences on the sheet. Answer any questions about
vocabulary.
3. Have students check Yes or No in the My guess column
for each statement. Make sure students do not look at
their partner’s sheet or discuss the sentences yet. Give
students about five minutes to do this.
4. Have students share their guesses with their partner
and check them. They check Yes or No in the Correct
information column. For example:
A: I think you stayed at home Friday night with a good
book.
B: That’s right! I’m reading a great book about famous
artists.
A: You didn’t watch a movie, and you didn’t cry.
 B: That’s wrong. I watched a very sad movie, and I cried
a lot.
5. As students are working, walk around to monitor the
activity and help as needed. Encourage students to add
extra information as they discuss the guesses. Make note
of any errors or problems to review later. End the activity
promptly after 20 minutes.
6. Find out which students in the class had the most correct
guesses. Have a few students tell the class about their
partner’s weekend.
