TO BE VERBS (IN THE PAST) WAS, WERE PART IV HOW TO MAKE INTERROGATIVE AND NEGATIVE SENTENCES USING TO BE VERBS IN THE PAST. Para criar frases negativas e interrogativas no passado usando verbos TO BE (was, were), basta seguirmos as mesmas regras utilizadas no presente (Parts I and II). Temos abaixo exemplos de frases afirmativas no passado, usando os verbo “BE”. A primeira coisa que precisamos fazer é identificar o verbo TO BE na frase. They were happy together. (Eles estavam felizes juntos) He was fixing the car. (Ele estava consertando o carro) I was studying for the test. (Eu estava estudando pro teste) Se o objetivo é criar frases interrogativas, basta colocar esses verbos (was, were) no início da frase e repetir todo o restante. Were they happy together? (Eles estavam felizes juntos?) Was he fixing the car? (Ele estava consertando o carro?) Was I studying for the test? (Eu estava estudando pro teste?) Se o objetivo é criar frases negativas, basta acrescentarmos o NOT após o verbo TO BE presente na frase. They were NOT happy together. (Eles não estavam felizes juntos) He was NOT fixing the car. (Ele não estava consertando o carro) I was NOT studying for the test. (Eu não estava estudando pro teste) Obs.: Para fazer a contração do verbo WAS/WERE + NOT, juntamos as duas palavras e sumimos com a letra O, substituindo-o por um apóstrofo (‘). WAS + NOT = WASN’T WERE + NOT = WEREN’T Agora é sua vez! Reescreva as frases a seguir em sua forma interrogativa. AFFIRMATIVE INTERROGATIVE Your kids were going to a different school.
