SIMPLE PRESENT – THIRD PERSON – HE, SHE, IT (Affirmative form)
BASIC RULE = ADD “S”
He works in a language school.
She speaks 3 languages.
Nobody knows him.
S, SS,CH,SH,X,O = ADD “ES”
Jane watches TV every night.
He goes to Sao Paulo every day.
Her husband washes the dishes after dinner.
CONSONANT+Y = “IES”
Mary studies very hard. (STUDY)
The baby cries all the time. (CRY)
He flies every month. (FLY)
*Notice the difference: He plays games twice a week. (PLAY = plays)
Exception
HAVE = HAS
Michaela has her own website.
SIMPLE PRESENT – THIRD PERSON – HE, SHE, IT (Negative and interrogative forms)
For interrogative sentences in the present with HE, SHE or IT we use the auxiliary verb DOES.
Remember that the verb is ALWAYS in the BASE FORM when using DOES (or DOES NOT).
DOES HE SPEAK INTALIAN?
DOES SHE KNOW HIM?
DOES IT WORK?
For negative sentences we use DOES NOT (or DOESN’T).
HE DOESN’T SPEAK ITALIAN.
SHE DOESN’T KNOW HIM.
IT DOESN’T WORK.
