Indefinite articles A and An 
 Used for previously	unknown singular nouns that are being introduced into a dialogue or story.
Plurals use the.
When do we use AN?
An before vowels and vowel sounds.
An apple
An umbrella
And vowel sounds
Hour uses an because it sounds like an O not an H. 
I’ll be there in an hour.
When do we use A?
For consonants.
I saw a cat walking on a lawn. 
Definite Article The
Nouns that have already been introduced or are already known, or are assumed to be known, at the point of introduction to the conversation.
Can you give me a pencil?
