Procure contrastar as sugestões dadas no texto com aquelas já discutidas no Warm-up e Think about it!. O vídeo do Think about it! Encaminhamento O Warm-up e o Think about it! tratam da vacinação, que é algo questionado por algumas pessoas. 2016. Text 1 (Acafe-SC) A couple of weeks ago I was asked what I thought the future of technology in education was. It is a really interesting question and one that I am required to think about all the time. By its very nature, technology changes at a fast pace and making it accessible to pupils, teachers and other stakeholders1 is an ongoing2 challenge. So what is the future? Is it the iPad? No, I don’t think it is. For me, the future is not about one specific device3. Don’t get me wrong, I love the iPad. In fact, I have just finished a trial to see if using them really does support teaching and learning – and they have proved effective. I’ve written about the trial in more detail on my blog. iPads and other mobile technology are the ‘now’. Although they will play a part in the future, four years ago the iPad didn’t even exist. We don’t know what will be the current technology in another four. Perhaps it will be wearable devices such as Google Glass, although I suspect that tablets will still be used in education. The future is about access, anywhere learning and collaboration, both locally and globally. Teaching and learning is going to be social. Schools of the future could have a traditional cohort4 of students, as well as online only students who live across the country or even the world. Things are already starting to move this way with the emergence of massive open online courses (MOOCs). For me the future of technology in education is the cloud. Technology can often be a barrier to teaching and learning. I think the cloud will go a long way to removing this barrier. Why? By removing the number of things that can go wrong. Schools will only need one major thing to be prepared for the future. They will not need software installed, servers or local file storage5. Schools will need a fast robust internet connection. Infrastructure is paramount6 to the future of technology in education. We don’t know what the new ‘in’ device will be in the future. What we do know is that it will need the cloud. Schools and other educational institutions will need to future-proof7 their infrastructure the best they can. BRITLAND, Matt. Mothers and fathers are finally being given a chance to understand “Teenglish”. They can study a new glossary of baffling1 vocabulary to prevent them from looking like a “fudge” in front of their offspring2. The guide, Pimp3 Your Vocab, aims to demystify the jargon used by teenagers and young people. It translates words they regularly use including “cool beans”, which means something is great. “Rents” means parents, combining the last half of the word with the fact they often provide rent-free accommodation. A “fudge” is anidiot. Author Lucy Tobin said she got the idea during her English degree course when a tutor was confused by a student declaring: “I was IM-ing ...” She added: “After the students explained IM-ing – when you talk to friends online via instant messaging – I wrote a guide to the language kids use”. Miss Tobin believes that the guide could help improve staff-student communication. She said: “In communicating with a Teenglish- speaking randomer4 (an outsider to your social group) their words can seem like a new language”. Teachers and academics have already complained that Teenglish and “text message speak” are creeping into5 exam answers. But last year, John Wells, president of the Spelling Society, claimed that the informal language of texts, chat rooms and emails were the “way forward”. Professor Wells said: “Let’s stop worrying if people sometimes spell ‘you’ as ‘u’, ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ both as ‘ur’; and ‘whose’ and ‘who’s’ both as ‘whos’”. “Nowadays we often see ‘light’ written as ‘lite’ and ‘through’ as ‘thru’.” HARRIS, S. A report by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) says sugar added to food or naturally present in fruit juice and honey3 should account for4 5% of energy intake. Many fail to meet the old 10% target. The sugar industry said “demonizing one ingredient” would not “solve the obesity epidemic”. The body reviewed 600 scientific studies on the evidence of carbohydrates – including sugar – on health to develop the new recommendations. One 330ml can of soft drink would take a typical adult up to the proposed 5% daily allowance5, without factoring in6 sugar fromany other source. Prof Ian MacDonald, chairman of the SACN working group on carbohydrates, said: “The evidence that we have analyzed shows quite clearly that high free sugars intake in adults is associated with increased energy intake and obesity. There is also an association between sugar- sweetened beverages and type-2 diabetes. In children there is clear demonstration that sugar-sweetened beverages are associated with obesity. By reducing it to 5% you would reduce the risk of all of those things, the challenge will be to get there.” The target of 5% of energy intake from free sugars amounts to7 25g for women (five to six teaspoons) and 35g (seven to eight teaspoons) for men, based on the average diet. Public Health Minister for England, Jane Ellison, said: “We know eating too much sugar can have a significant impact on health, and this advice confirms that. We want to help people make healthier choices and get the nation into healthy habits for life. This report will inform the important debate taking place about sugar.” Available at: <www.bbc.com>. The Department of Energy has doubled its 2005 commitment3 to funding research into biofuels – any non-petroleum fuel source, including corn, soybean, switchgrass4, municipal waste and used cooking oil. Already, half of the nearly 11 billion bushels5 of corn produced each year is turned into ethanol, and most new cars are capable of running on E10 (10% ethanol and 90% gas). 1 5 10 R E P R O D U Ç Ã O /< W W W .E N E R G IS .C O M > Text Comprehension aulas Enem: Estudo do texto: as sequências discursivas e os gêneros textuais no sistema de comunicação e informação Estudo dos aspectos linguísticos em diferentes textos: recursos expressivos da língua, procedimentos de construção e recepção de textos 29 e 30 in the classroom 85 L’ n g u a I n g le sa EM_REG_075a104_Lin_Ing_CA7.indd 85 4/12/17 18:05 Yet the eco-friendly fuel is beginning to look less chummy6 of late. Some of the 114 ethanol plants in the U.S. use natural gas and, yes, even coal to run the processors. And ethanol has to be trucked. Existing gas pipelines7 can’t carry it because it corrodes iron. Then there are the economics. Producers depend on federal subsidies, and increasing demand for corn as fuel means the kernels8 keep getting pricier. That’s why researchers are prospecting for more alternatives, preferably ones that don’t rely on9 food crops or a 51 cent-per-gallon tax break10. Municipal waste, wood pulp and leftover11 grain and corn husks are all quite attractive; they can produce something called cellulosic ethanol, which contains more energy than corn. For now, bio-diesel fuel is percolating6 through 10 vehicles monitored by the Instituto Virtual Internacional de Mudanças Globais, the technology and research center at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. If the recycled French-fry fuel ever catches on7, it could spark8 annual demand for billions of liters of vegetable oils in Brazil. The institute’s long-term goal is to develop fuels completely composed of grain and food product oils. Research at the institute suggests that even a partial conversion to grain oils would substantially reduce carbon dioxide and sulfur emissions. Bio-diesel fuel contains up to 98% less sulfur and 78% less carbon dioxidethan regular diesel fuel. You may need to consider your intake1 of salt, fats, and sugar, and you should watch your portion sizes. Include fruits and vegetables in your diet, and vary what you eat. Reading the packaging will help you to select whole-grain2 foods when buying bread, cereals, pasta, or rice. These are richer in nutrients and fiber than the alternatives made from refined grain. As for3 proteins, eat small and lean4 portions of meat and poultry5 and try to eat fish a couple of times a week, if possible. In some lands it is also possible to find protein-rich foods from vegetable sources. 1 5 10 Text Comprehension; The Passive Voice (I) aulas Enem: Estudo do texto: as sequências discursivas e os gêneros textuais no sistema de comunicação e informação Estudo dos aspectos linguísticos em diferentes textos: recursos expressivos da língua, procedimentos de construção e recepção de textos 31 e 32 in the classroom 89 L’ n g u a I n g le sa EM_REG_075a104_Lin_Ing_CA7.indd 89 4/12/17 18:05 If you eat too many sugars and solid fats, you’ll risk becoming overweight. To minimize this risk, drink water instead of sweet beverages. Eat more fruit instead of sugary desserts. Limit your intake of solid fats from such items as sausages, meat, butter, cakes, cheese, and cookies. And instead of using solid fats for cooking, you may want to use healthier oils. Too much salt, or sodium, in the diet can raise your blood pressure to an unhealthy level. If this is your problem, use the information on food packaging to keep your sodium intake low. Instead of salt, use herbs and spices6 to flavor7 your meals. How much you eat can be as important as what you eat. So, while enjoying your food, do not keep eating after you are no longer hungry. An issue tied to nutrition is the risk of food poisoning8. Any food can poison you if it is not prepared and stored properly. Every year, 1 out of every 6 Americans falls sick from food poisoning. Most recover without lasting ill effects, but some die from it. What can you do to minimize the risk? • Vegetables grow in soil that may have been treated with manure9, so wash these items carefully before preparing them. • Wash your hands, cutting board, utensils, dishes, and countertops10 with hot, soapy water before preparing each item. • To avoid cross-contamination, never put food on a surface or plate that was previously in contact with raw11 eggs, poultry, meat, or fish, without first washing that surface. • Cook until the food reaches the right temperature, and promptly refrigerate any perishable items that are not going to be eaten immediately. • Discard perishable items left at room temperature for more than two hours or one hour if air temperature exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 °C). True, women don’t usually start showing signs until their 60s – about 10 years after men first develop symptoms. And hormones seem to play a protective role in women before menopause. Text (UFPB – Adaptada) If women are asked what disease they fear most, the vast majority will answer: breast1 cancer. They may also cite the ominous2 statistic that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some point in her life. But what most women don’t realize is that they actually have far more to fear from heart disease, which will strike3 1 out of every 3. More than 2 million European women die each year of cardiovascular disease – that’s 43% of all deaths – making their hearts, not breast cancer (with 5% of deaths annually), their number 1 killer. Women and heart disease? Better believe it. For while most people still think of cardiovascular trouble as mainly a man’s problem, the reality is that heart disease has never discriminated between the sexes. In fact, for a variety of complex reasons, the condition is more often fatal in women than in men and women are more likely severely disabled4 by a stroke5 or congestive heart 1 5 10 15 R E P R O D U Ç Ã O /B IR F y o u r n o te s 94 Li n g u a g e n s, C ó d ig o s e s u a s Te cn o lo g ia s EM_REG_075a104_Lin_Ing_CA7.indd 94 4/12/17 18:05 Exercise 1 Based on the text, choose the correct alternative. 1.
