Is the modal verb in the present, “Can and Can’t” can be used to express somethings:
● Ability (present)
Ex: I Can help you to do this.
● Possibility (present)
Ex: Smoking can cause cancer.
● Permission (informal)
Ex: Can I enter in your room?
● Request (informal
Ex: Can you hand me the pen?
● Offer (help)
Ex: Can I help you with that?
● Can’t (Negative)
Ex: I can’t do this today.
Form Formula Example
Affirmative Form Subjetc + Can I can swim.
Negative Form Subjetc + Can’t I can’t swim.
Question Form Can + Subjetc + ? Can I Swim?
Answer to Question Form Yes/No + Subjetc + Can/Can’t Yes, you can swim.
● Atention !
1. Can’t is equal to Cannot.
2. Can and can’t are the same for all persons.
3. Don’t use to after can.
Ex: I can swim. NOT I can to swim.
● Could and Couldn’t
“Could and Couldn’t” is the past form of Can and Can’t.
