An orbital sander is a tool used for sanding wood or other materials. It is small, portable, and quicker than hand sanding. Orbital sanders rotate in a random orbital pattern, which allows them to smooth out the surface without leaving deep scratches. They can be used to sand two pieces of timber connected at right angles or sand against the grain without worrying about marks. Orbital sanders have a hard plastic or rubber case and a soft base where sandpaper is attached. Unlike belt sanders, they only require a piece of sandpaper and they also have a feature to suck up the sawdust through holes in the base of the tool.
