To remove and install a starter motor in a car with automatic transmission and a 4.7L engine, follow these steps: 1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. 2. Raise and support the vehicle. 3. Remove the screw and washer that secure the lower installation flange of the starter motor to the cover of the torque converter of the automatic transmission. 4. While supporting the starter motor with one hand, use the other hand to remove the screw and washer that secure the upper installation flange of the starter motor to the cover of the torque converter of the automatic transmission. 5. Lower the starter motor from the front of the cover of the torque converter of the automatic transmission enough to access and remove the washer that secures the eyelet terminal of the positive battery cable to the stud of the B(+) terminal of the starter solenoid. 6. Install the nut that secures the eyelet terminal of the positive battery cable to the stud of the B(+) terminal of the starter solenoid. Tighten the nut to a torque of 13.6 N·m (120 lbs. in.). During this process, always support the starter motor, do not let it hang from the cable harness. 7. Place the installation flange of the starter motor in the clutch housing of the manual transmission and install the two screws with washers that secure it without tightening them. 8. Tighten the two screws with washers that secure the installation flange of the starter motor to the clutch housing of the manual transmission. Tighten the screws to a torque of 54.2 N·m (40 lbs. ft.). 9. Lower the vehicle. 10. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Remember to always consult the specific vehicle's manual for detailed instructions and torque specifications.
