What is the correct procedure for correcting leaks in the converter cover area?

- Remove the converter.
- Tighten the front band adjustment screw until it is tight around the clutch retainer. This prevents the front/rear clutches from coming out when the pump is removed.
- Remove the oil pump and pump gasket. Inspect the drain and vent holes in the pump cover for obstructions. Clean the holes with solvent and wire.
- Inspect the pump bushing and converter hub. If the bushing is scratched, replace it. If the converter hub is scratched, polish it with burlap or replace the converter if the scratches are deep.
- Install the new gasket, O-ring, and pump packing. Replace the oil pump if it is cracked, porous, or damaged in any way. Be sure to loosen the front band before installing the oil pump. If the band is still tight around the front clutch retainer, damage to the oil pump gasket may occur.
- Loosen the access plug to the withdrawal lever passage three turns. Apply Loctite 592, Permatex No. 2, or equivalent to the threads of the plug and tighten the plug with a torque of 17 N·m (150 lb. in.).
- Adjust the front band.
- Lubricate the pump gasket and hub with petroleum jelly.
