To identify oil leaks, start with a visual inspection of the entire engine, particularly in the area where the leak is suspected. If the source of the oil leak is not identified through visual inspection, add an oil-soluble dye and let the engine idle for about 15 minutes. Use a black light to inspect the entire engine for fluorescent color, particularly in the area where the oil leak is suspected. If the oil leak is identified, repair it according to the service manual instructions. If the oil leak is not identified, proceed with the air leak detection test.
