Annually, large areas of flat land are lost worldwide due to soil salinization, which makes it impossible for plants to survive. Much of this problem occurs due to the excessive entry of sodium ions into cells, leading to cell death due to its high toxicity. Several studies seek to solve this problem using different strategies. One strategy that can be used to minimize the high toxicity of sodium ions in plant cells without impairing their functioning is:

a) Increase the number of sodium ion efflux pump proteins.
b) Increase the rigidity of the plasma membrane.
c) Increase the availability of water for the plant cell.
d) Prevent the gene expression of all cell permeases, since these proteins perform facilitated diffusion.
e) Prevent osmosis, causing the cell to not lose water to the external environment.
