In Portaria n. 2.914/11, in its Section V - Control and Surveillance Laboratories, the references regarding the analytical methods that must be used for water analysis are mentioned in article 22. The analytical methodologies for the determination of the parameters provided for in this Ordinance must comply with the most recent national or international standards, except for:

a. Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater authored by the American Public Health Association (APHA), American Water Works Association (AWWA) and Water Environment Federation (WEF).
b. United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).
c. Standards published by the International Standardization Organization (ISO).
d. United States Pharmacopeia.
e. Methodologies proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
