Preserve the biodiversity of the Mata Atlântica of the southern Bahia, an important forest remnant that is part of the Central Corridor of the Atlantic Forest;
Preserve the forest masses on the coastal plateaus, phytophysionomy of the Atlantic Forest and associated organisms;
Preserve the genetic heritage, rare, endemic and threatened species existing in PNPB;
Protect the regional water resources, the river ecosystems and the springs of the Trancoso, Taipe and Barra river basins;
Protect the geological heritage and its geomorphic particularities;
Promote orderly visitation, leisure and recreation, focused on environmental awareness, appreciation and conservation of natural, historical and cultural heritage as well as environmental education, through the dissemination of environmentally sustainable concepts and practices;
Encourage integration and sustainable development with the surrounding communities, aiming at the protection and minimization of environmental impacts on the landscape in which the Park is inserted;
Encourage and support research that generates knowledge about the region, provides subsidies for the management of the Conservation Unit and assists in the formulation and execution of conservation and preservation strategies.

Os principais objetivos e metas do Parque Nacional do Pau Brasil são: - Preservar a biodiversidade da Mata Atlântica do sul da Bahia, um importante remanescente florestal que faz parte do Corredor Central da Mata Atlântica; - Preservar as massas florestais nas planícies costeiras, fitofisionomia da Mata Atlântica e organismos associados; - Preservar o patrimônio genético, espécies raras, endêmicas e ameaçadas existentes no PNPB; - Proteger os recursos hídricos regionais, os ecossistemas fluviais e as nascentes das bacias dos rios Trancoso, Taipe e Barra; - Proteger o patrimônio geológico e suas particularidades geomórficas; - Promover visitação ordenada, lazer e recreação, focados na conscientização ambiental, valorização e conservação do patrimônio natural, histórico e cultural, bem como educação ambiental, por meio da divulgação de conceitos e práticas ambientalmente sustentáveis; - Incentivar a integração e o desenvolvimento sustentável com as comunidades circunvizinhas, visando à proteção e minimização dos impactos ambientais na paisagem em que o Parque está inserido; - Incentivar e apoiar pesquisas que gerem conhecimento sobre a região, forneçam subsídios para a gestão da Unidade de Conservação e auxiliem na formulação e execução de estratégias de conservação e preservação.
