A imunidade humoral tem um papel importante no controle da doença de Chagas. Durante a fase aguda da doença, ocorre uma forte ativação do sistema imunológico, que produz anticorpos IgM e IgG. Embora os anticorpos IgM sejam raramente detectados durante a fase crônica da doença, os anticorpos IgG permanecem presentes. Além disso, anticorpos que reconhecem o epítopo terminal contendo galactosil a-l-3-galactose (anticorpos anti-gal) também exercem atividade lítica sobre o parasita. Os anticorpos responsáveis pelo mecanismo de LMCo estão presentes apenas em infecções ativas.
