INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS:
§ Is it better to raise children in a big city or in a small
town? Why?
§ Should parents control what their children eat?
Why?
 § What’s your definition of a family?
§ Some people say that friends are the family we have
chosen. Do you agree?
STUDENT A
Teacher: (Student A), I am going to show
you two pictures in which families
are having fun. I would like you
to compare them and say what
you think these families value the
most.
Give Student A one minute and then ask this
question to Student B.
Teacher: (Student B), what does your family
do for fun?
Teacher: Here are some things people should consider if they want to adopt a healthy diet. Talk to
each other about what the challenges of eating healthy might be.
After two minutes
Teacher: Thank you. Now you have a minute to decide what the biggest challenge is for people
who decide to adopt a healthy diet.
STUDENT B
Teacher: (Student B), I am going to show you
two pictures in which people are
eating at restaurants. I would like
you to compare them and say why
you think they have decided to eat
in these places.
Give Student B one minute and then ask this
question to Student A.
Teacher: (Student A), in which of these places
would you have a better time? Why?
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:
§ Some people say it’s bad to be an
only child because you don’t learn
how to share. What do you think?
§ Some people believe living in
small towns is far from ideal
because there aren’t many things
to do and there are very few job
opportunities.

ADVANCED 1 and 2
ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES FOR THE ORAL TESTS
In order to promote teachers’ and students’ familiarization with what is expected in the FCE, the
Midterm and Final Oral Tests for Advanced 1 and 2 follow the same typology as the speaking
component of the exam.
Cambridge English official criteria and scales are also to be applied when assessing students. They
can be found in the Intranet > Educação > Cursos de Inglês > Advanced > Documentos Comuns > PET
– Handbook for Teachers (pages 47, 48).
There are four aspects to be assessed. Marks given for each aspect range from 0 to 5.
To obtain the overall Midterm Oral Test score (10), the marks for each aspect should be added up
and then divided by two. This score should then be registered in the Students’ Evaluation Chart. For
example:
To obtain the overall Final Oral Test score (20), the marks for each aspect should simply be added up.
This score should then be registered in the Students’ Evaluation chart. For example:
The procedures for the setup of the test can also be found in the Intranet > Educação> Cursos
de Inglês > Documentos Comuns Kids a Pre-advanced, ME1 e 2 > Oral Tests - Orientações.
Complementary guidelines can also be found in the PET - Handbook for Teachers.
