1
Introduction
This document describes the general principles for error reporting
in the DC Software product, and lists all error codes and system
messages that DC Software can produce. The purpose is to provide
information sufficient to decide whether an error is caused by
hardware failure, by mistakes in the use of DC Software or by
internal errors in DC Software.

2
Using the document
When you receive a system message, this is how you use the
document to get all information out from it (basic information
about system message layout can be found in reference 1):
- Find out what the message type (mtype) and message code
(code) means for the particular message (only messages with
mtype 23, 24, 25 and 26 are described in this document).
This information is found in chapter 4.
- Decide which appendix to use to get more details.
The different appendices correspond to the first three
characters in the names of the tasks that sends system
messages.
Example: The system messages from the task DCPA010 are found
in appendix "System messages, DCP - Presentation".
- Look up the particular system message.
Search for the trace number from the system message in the
chosen appendix.
If you don’t find the trace number in the chosen appendix, it
can be found in the appendix "System messages, DCX - Common"
which contains system messages from common service procedures
that are called by a number of tasks.
Now you have got all information you can get out of the system
message.

3
Reporting errors to ABB
DC Software is thoroughly tested and is believed to be correct and
reliable. However, in some cases a task may be aborted or system
messages sent caused by hardware failure, by mistakes in the use
of DC Software or by internal errors in DC Software.
If you receive a system message that indicates an error in
DC Software, please report it to ABB by contacting your supplier
of DC Software, your ABB Service organization or (if you are
famliar with it) by using the System Problem Report (SPR)
procedure. Be sure to include all information about the problem
that you have available.

4
Error categories
Errors in a DC Software system are divided into four basic
categories, database access errors, signal call errors, MMI errors
and internal (other) errors. The four categories have different
message types (mtype) and each message type has a number of
different message codes.
4.1
Database access errors
A database access error is an error that affects only a limited
part of the system, such as a task that reads/writes information
from/to a database concept. When such an error occurs the task
normally cancels the current operation, reports the error with a
system message and continues with the next operation.
DATABASE ACCESS ERRORS
mtype = 23
code = error code (acb.ccode) from the database accessor (see
reference 2)
task = task name
address = trace number
data_1 = database index
data_2 = database property (may be omitted)
If the task has exception handling for czdberr, code = value from
the routine cxsyserr. See reference 3.
4.2
Signal call errors
A signal call error is an error that affects only a limited part
of the system, such as a task that sends/receives a signal to/from
another task. When such an error occurs the task normally cancels
the current operation, reports the error with a system message and
continues with the next operation.

4.3
MMI errors
A MMI error is an error that affects only a limited part of the
system, such as a MMI input/output on a communication link. When
such an error occurs the task normally cancels the current
operation, reports the error with a system message and continues
with the next operation.

Internal (other) errors
An internal (other than the earlier mentioned) error is an error
that affects only a limited part of the system, such as a task
with internal parameters and procedure calls. When such an error
occurs the task normally cancels the current operation, reports
the error with a system message and continues with the next
operation.
