¿Qué son los Helmintos?
Helmito, del griego “gusano parasito”, refiere a especies animales de cuerpo largo o blando que infestan el organismo de otras especies. 
Organismos con grandes diferencias de formas, requerimientos fisiológicos y biológicas.
VERMES 
Son gusanos parásitos y de vida libre.
 
SON INVERTEBRADOS 
SON PROPIOS DE HOMBRE, PERO PUEDEN CAUSAR ENFERMEDADES 
EUCARIOTAS
MULTICELULARES 
TAMAÑO: DESDE 1 MM. HASTA 10 M.
PUEDEN SER HEMAFRODITAS
POSEEN SISTEMA NERVIOSO, EXCRETOR Y REPRODUCTOR. 
CARECEN DE SISTEMA CIRCULATORIO Y RESPIRATORIO.

	PLATELMINTOS
Los platelmintos, llamados gusanos planos, son un FILO de ANIMALES invertebrados, que comprende unas 20 000 ESPECIES. La mayoría son HERMAFRODITAS que habitan en ambientes marinos, fluviales, terrestres húmedos y aéreos; SON Carnívoros que presentan triblastia (tres capas de tejido que se desarrollan en su crecimiento embrionario 
Características
Tienen simetría bilateral: es decir, su cuerpo tiene forma de suela y son aplanados.
Carecen de cavidad corporal (acelomados o acelómicos) 
Carecen de sistema circulatorio y respiratorio. El sistema excretor, cuenta como unidad básica con células flamígeras.
El sistema nervioso esta formado por un par de ganglios anteriores, de los que parten una serie de cordones nerviosos que se dirigen hacia el extremo posterior, uniéndose entre sí. 
La mayoría son monoicos (hermafroditas), aunque algunos son dioicos, o lo que es lo mismo con sexo separado. La reproducción es sexual, si bien los estadios larvarios pueden multiplicarse de forma asexual. 
No tienen cavidades corporales internas: solamente cuentan con conductos digestivos. A estos animales sin cavidad se les denomina acelomados.
Presentan interneuronas: son los animales más simples que cuentan con ellas.
Pueden parasitar humanos: por lo que tienen una gran importancia médica.
Turbellaria especies de vida libre, aunque algunas pueden desarrollar una vida parasitaria en invertebrados, especialmente en equinodermos y moluscos. como la PLANARIA  (Dugesia sp.)
Monogenea. Son por lo general especies parásitas de peces que se localizan en la piel o agallas, por tanto ectoparásitos. 
Trematoda Parásitos, como las DUELAS (FASCIOLA HEPATICA) se subdivide en 3 clases
 Digenea: Suelen ser parásitos del tracto digestivo de vertebrados. Con ciclo evolutivo indirecto, el hospedador intermediario es normalmente un molusco. 
Aspidogastrea: Por lo general son parásitos de invertebrados, muy pocos lo son de tortugas o peces.
Didymozoidea: Parásitos de peces. En muchos casos se desconoce su ciclo biológica
4. Cestoda Cestoidea: Suelen ser parásitos de vertebrados, de ciclo evolutivo 1 indirecto. Los dos grupos de mayor interés veterinario son la superclase Trematoda (Clase Digenea) y la superclase Cestoidea.
