Wh Questions with Did
Introduction
This past simple 'Wh' questions worksheet helps students learn 
and practice 'Wh' questions with 'did'.
Procedure
Give each student a copy of the two-page worksheet.
Students start by matching past simple 'Wh' questions with 
answers.
Exercise A - Answer key

Next, students complete sentences with the correct question 
words.
Exercise B - Answer key
1. why 2. what 3. which
4. when 5. where 6. who
Students then complete past simple questions with the correct 
question words.
Exercise C - Answer key

Exercise D - Answer key
Students then put words in the correct order to create 'Wh'

Procedure continued
Students then move on to create past simple 'Wh' questions with 
'did' that match a set of answers.
Exercise E - Answer key
1. What did you eat for breakfast?
2. When did you buy your phone?
3. Where did you find the money?
4. Who did you call?
5. What did he give you?
6. Why did you go there?
After that, students complete a dialogue with past simple 'Wh' 
questions that match the answers in bold.
Exercise F - Answer key
1. Which cinema did you go to?
2. Who did you go with?
3. What film did you see?
4. Why did you choose it?
5. Where did you go after the film?
6. What time did you get home?
When the students have finished, they practice the dialogue with 
a partner.
Lastly, students use the theme of the dialogue to ask their partner 
what they did last Saturday night. Students try to find out as 
much information as they can about their evening using past 
simple 'Wh' questions with 'did'.

Question word + did + subject + main verb (infinitive form) ...
