3 Self-Study Activities with Podcasts
to Boost Your Vocabulary & Support Your Fluency

Activity 1: Create Your Vocabulary List
Listen to your podcast. You can listen for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or listen to
the entire show. As you listen, make notes of your FAVORITE new
expressions or words. If a transcript is available, use that to help you.

Activity 2: Summarize What You Heard
To practice speaking and fluency skills, summarize the podcast. Be sure to
include any important details such as who, what, when, where, why, how,
how much, how many, how often. And include the vocabulary words you
wrote down on Page 1.
I recommend recording yourself when you speak so you can listen, correct
and repeat. You may want or need to correct grammar, pronunciation, or
vocabulary.

Activity 3: Advanced Speaking Task
Think about the podcast you listened to.
Was it an opinion topic? If yes, practice speaking about your opinion on the
topic. 
Do you agree or disagree with the topic of the podcast? Practice speaking
about why you agree or disagree.
Was it a story? Share your own story on the same topic.
In each situation, I recommend recording yourself and using your key
vocabulary again from Page 1. 
These activities will support common speaking skills and boost your
