I just can’t believe we are almost done with the consonants. We

have learned about the voiced and unvoiced ones. Some of them are a bit

difficult, some others are okay, but some others are just very easy, right? Mas

e aí, será que existem encontros consonantais em inglês, mais de um som de

consoante junto? Sim, e eles são chamados de consonant clusters!

In linguistics, a consonant cluster, consonant sequence or consonant

compound, is a group of consonants which have no intervening vowel, ou seja,

mais de um som de consoante junto sem uma vogal separando. For example:

rl, thr, tr, dr, ct, st, ft, sn, sp, sk, pr, pl, kw, hy, py, sl,

sw, spr, str, skw, sk, sc, scr, sm, fl, fr, gr…

Mas decidimos separar alguns clusters que são bem tricky, aqueles mais

difíceis para nós, falantes do português brasileiro. Essas consonant clusters

direito? So let's do it!

Are you ready to practice them?

rl

Girl

World

Carlton

Whirl

Swirl

Twirl

Squirrel

Pearl

Curl

Earl

dr

Drive

Drought

Drink

Draw

Dragon

Drama

Andrew

Draft

Drill

Drake

tr

Strive

Trip

Trap

Trot

Trouble

Troop

Trust

Train

Track

Truck

pr

Promise

Problem

Preach

Protect

Proud

Previous

Print

Prom

Pray

Proof

gr

Great

Gross

Groom

Grumpy

Grudge

Grab

Grind

Gravel

Grip

Grass

fr

Friend

Fruit

Fry

Freckles

French

Freak

Frost

Fro

From

Fred

fl

Floss

Flee

Flat

Flu

Float

Florida

Flick

Flock

Flute

Fly

thr

Throat

Through

Throw

Thread

Three

Thrash

Threshold

Throb

Thrust

Throne

scr

Scream

Screen

Scratch

Screw

Scroll

Scrap

Scrub

Scramble

Scruff

Screech

str

Straight

Strap

Struck

Strike

Street

Stroll

Struggle

Strap

Stroke

Strut

spr

Spring

Sprite

Sprung

Spree

Spray

Spread

Sprain

Sprinkles

Spry

Sprout

TAKE NOTICE

LISTEN AND REPEAT

02 Módulo 04: English Consonants

Aula 11: Tricky Clusters

Oh yeah, and now you know what time it is, right?
