The SCHOTTEL Pump-Jet SPJ is a
controllable jet propulsion system
working in accordance with the
principle of a rotary pump.
Power is transmitted from the driving
motor via a cardan shaft to the SPJ.
Within the SPJ power is transmitted via
a bevel gear stage to the impeller. The
impeller (b) sucks the water through a
intake (a) below the bottom of the boat
and then is fed into the enclosing
diffuser housing (c), whose bottom
plate is provided with three outlet
nozzles from which the water is ejected
(angle: 130).
The diffuser housing -- and therefore
also the water jet can be controlled 3600
without limitation and with thrust.

Essential Improvements of the new
RD-Version
π Increase in specific thrust up to 15 %
π Same bollard pull with 20 % less power
π The flow-cross-section was enlarged for
> 40 % → lower danger of blocking, lower
mesh resistance of the protective grid
π Volume flow 29 % higher
π Impeller speed was decreased by 18 % to
improve the cavitation abilities and to
achieve a higher life time
π Velocity of flow was decreased by 14 % to
lower noise, suction and flow forces which
lowers the load on the ground and thrust
deduction.
π Reduction of the specific power to weight
ratio by 10 %.

π short reaction time
 - short stopping distance
 - turning within ship lenght
π low noise and vibrations
π higher thrust at inflow speed than other
 pump thrusters
π steerable thrust at BR
 - excellent course keeping ability also at hard
 weather conditions
 - pulling a flexible system increases the
 course stability distinctly
 - forward thrust possible means higher safety
margin concerning ship speed at several
 conditions (draught, environmentals,
 numbers of IM etc.)
π not sensitive against oblique inflow, very
 stable power absorption
π installation makes form optimisation possible
Essential Technical Aspects for INLS-

π steerable thrust arround 360°
π shallow water device,
 - no danger of damage by grounding
 - lowest draft possible, self-priming
