Note the lateral meniscal chondrocalcinosis. OA: Severe patellofemoral OA. OA: advanced degenerative change seen in the weight- bearing compartment of the left hip joint. OA: erosive OA at the DIPJ little finger. 27/02/2016 2 Severe osteoarthritis of the hip. There is joint space narrowing which has occurred asymmetrically within the joint, in this case affecting the superior joint (the most common pattern of hip involvement). Note also subchondral cyst formation (black arrowheads) and osteophytosis (arrows). The osteophytes form a rim around the femoral head/neck junction and are superimposed over the neck visible as a sclerotic line (white arrowheads), which should not be mistaken for a fracture. Severe osteoarthritis affecting the thumb base. There is loss of joint space and subchondral sclerosis along with osteophyte formation affecting the thumb carpometacarpal joint. An osteochondral loose body is present (arrow) and there is joint subluxation. Early involvement of the STT joint is also seen as subchondral sclerosis. Knee osteoarthritis showing the effect of weightbearing on joint space narrowing. (A) Non-weight-bearing radiograph shows some subchondral bone irregularity reflecting the knee osteoarthritis, but the medial and lateral compartment joint spaces look to be relatively well preserved. (B) Radiograph with the patient standing with 30° flexion. Severe loss of lateral compartment joint space is now appreciated (arrowhead). The knee flexion also demonstrates osteophyte in the intercondylar notch (arrows). Severe osteoarthritis of the hip. AP radiograph: In this case joint space loss is in a less common medial distribution (black arrowheads). The study also shows osseous hypertrophy along the medial neck of the femur (buttressing) (white arrowheads). Note also the marginal osteophytes which can also be seen projected over the femoral neck 27/02/2016 3 27/02/2016 4 Referências • BRANT, W. E.; HELMS, C. A.
