IndustraForm® Template Based
j5 Mobile Applications

In the past, customers have relied on vendors to create and modify mobile applications,
adding frustrations like increased financial costs and wasted time. j5 Mobile brings a unique
and powerful tool to the operations management environment. The disruptive j5
IndustraForm Templates, which allow j5 International customers to easily create and modify
j5 Applications:

j5 Mobile users can view and edit the same j5 IndustraForm Templates that are available on
desktop computers. All the benefits of j5 IndustraForm Templates are available on the
mobile device, including workflows, approvals, advanced calculations, data validation, and
more. These can easily be customized to suit an organization using the spreadsheet-like j5
IndustraForm Designer. As a result, desktop and mobile applications are now in sync and
there are no advanced source code programming skills required to modify or add new j5
Mobile applications – such as j5 Shift Handover forms – to the j5 Framework. j5
IndustraForm Template applications on j5 Mobile allow for the viewing and editing of any j5
IndustraForm Templates. j5 Mobile supports all the standard j5 IndustraForm Template field
types, including:

• Label
• Text
• Number
• Integer
• Choice
• Checkbox
• Checklist Item
• Rich Text
• Date and Time
• Date
• Attachment
• Hierarchy Select
• Sparkline
• Chart
• Asset Selector

Sophisticated field calculations are also supported using the j5 IndustraForm Templates
formula engine. When online, j5 IndustraForm Templates are automatically and continuously
kept in sync between the j5 Operations Management Software server and the j5 Mobile
enabled device. As a j5 Mobile user edits a field, the change is reflected on the j5 Operations
Management Software server, and vice versa. This ensures that mobile and control room
users have the same view of the data. Multi-user concurrent editing is also supported, even
in the same j5 IndustraForm Template Section, allowing for real-time collaborative editing.

When a mobile device loses connectivity, changes are stored and then forwarded
automatically once connectivity is restored. This happens for all changes to all j5
IndustraForm Templates, whether currently viewing the j5 Mobile application or not,
therefore no user action is required. j5 IndustraForm Template Section approvals and
revisions are supported when online, allowing managers and supervisors to advance
processes while they’re on the move. j5 IndustraForm Templates based j5 Mobile
applications are available alongside the existing j5 Mobile applications, so existing
customers can continue using their familiar j5 Mobile applications while adding significant
power through new j5 IndustraForm Templates based j5 Mobile applications as they are
brought online:

Selecting j5 IndustraForm Template Based j5 Mobile Applications

Using j5 IndustraForm Templates based j5 Mobile applications, users can select any j5
IndustraForm Templates to synchronize to the j5 Mobile enabled device according to what is
relevant for their current work. When a user navigates to an j5 IndustraForm Templates tile
for the first time, the list of the j5 IndustraForm Templates available on the j5 Operations
Management Software server is displayed, and the user can select which they want to
synchronize to the j5 Mobile enabled device:

Each item in the list shows the type of the j5 IndustraForm Template and a summary to help
make an informed decision about which are relevant. A j5 IndustraForm Template can be
selected by tapping its checkbox. Once a selection has been made, users click Confirm to
synchronize these selections to the j5 Mobile enabled device. Users click Cancel to leave
the selection unchanged:

The j5 IndustraForm Templates Selection List will only automatically appear if none have
been synchronized to the j5 Mobile application. To change this selection, users tap the
Selection List icon in the top right of the screen:

When the device is offline, the j5 IndustraForm Templates Selection List displays those
already available on the j5 Mobile device, but new selections cannot be fetched from the j5
Operations Management Software server. Once a j5 IndustraForm Template is no longer
needed on the j5 Mobile device, it can be removed by unchecking the item on the Selection
List and clicking Confirm. j5 IndustraForm Template selections and removals can be done at
the same time:

When trying to remove a j5 IndustraForm Template that has un-synced changes, a warning
message will appear. Selecting Confirm will remove the j5 IndustraForm Template and
discard the pending changes. Selecting Cancel will cancel the action.

j5 IndustraForm Templates Mobile Synchronization

While online, all j5 IndustraForm Templates that have been synchronized to the j5 Mobile
enabled device are automatically and continuously kept in sync with the j5 Operations
Management Software server. No user action is required. The current sync status for each j5
IndustraForm Template is displayed on the j5 IndustraForm Templates list for that j5
Application:

While the j5 Mobile enabled device is offline, a Disconnected icon is displayed in the top
right of the screen. Any changes made to a j5 IndustraForm Template while offline are saved
on the j5 Mobile enabled device and then forwarded automatically once connectivity is
restored. This is displayed as an orange SAVED icon instead of a green SYNCED icon:

If any errors occur, a red icon is displayed with an error message which gives more
information about the error. The table below summarises all the status icons and messages:

For all UNSYNCED errors, the j5 Mobile enabled device will continue to retry to sync. If
successful, the status will update to SYNCED. On the Home screen, the tile for a j5
IndustraForm Template based j5 Mobile application displays the number of j5 IndustraForm
Templates currently available on the j5 Mobile enabled device for this j5 Application, and the
number of un-synced selections if any changes have taken place while the device is offline:

Note: The performance of j5 IndustraForm Templates on the j5 Mobile application is
improved when the total number of j5 IndustraForm Templates synced to the mobile device
is low. It is recommended that users maintain a small working set of j5 IndustraForm
Templates and remove any j5 IndustraForm Templates that are no longer required.

Navigation

Tapping on j5 IndustraForm Template displays a list of the Sections in the j5 IndustraForm
Template. Tapping on a Section displays the fields that can be entered by a user, and can
contain Sub-Sections (which have the same structure as a Section):

Each Section in the Section List shows the title of the Section, its Status, and a Status Icon.
The Color and the Image of the Status Icon change with the submission status of each
Section. The following table outlines what the different status icons mean:

Icon Section Status

Not yet started

In progress, or revising a previous submission

Submitted and waiting to be approved

Approved, or submitted and no approvals are
required

Rejected by an approver

Disabled based on the IndustraForm state

Disabled based on the j5 IndustraForm Template state Sub-Sections have a similar progress
indicator, but since there is no submission and approval workflow at the Sub-Section level,
the meaning is slightly different and highlighted below:

Icon Sub-Section Progress Indicator

No values have been changed in this Sub-Section yet

At least one value has been changed in this Sub-Section

All required fields in this Sub-Section have values set (this icon will show if there are no required fields)

When navigating through nested Sub-Sections, these icons make it easy to see where input
is still required in the j5 IndustraForm Template.

Section Submissions and Approval

When viewing a top-level Section, a footer bar is shown with options to Submit, Approve or
Reject the section. The submission and approval process are the same as a j5 IndustraForm
Template on a desktop computer:

The Section Submit and Approval options are only available when the j5 Mobile enabled
device is online. Information about the current submission state is displayed in the top right
of the Section:

When approving a Section, a dialog is displayed where the user can select their approval
Role before confirming the approval:

Validation

A Section can only be submitted if all its required fields have been entered and there are no
validation errors. If these conditions are not met, a message is displayed to the user in the
Section footer:

Required fields are shown with an asterisk next to the field label (as seen in the image
above). Fields that have invalid input are underlined with a red line. Fields that contain
flagged input values are underlined in yellow. Flagged values don’t prevent Section
submissions:

The valid range of a numeric field, if set, is displayed as a hint to a user when the field is
empty:

Charts, Sparklines, Trendlines and Trend History

The same powerful j5 IndustraForm Template Charts and Sparklines that are available on
the desktop are available for j5 Mobile users. They can view trends and detailed graphs,
comparing movements of multiple Tags and readings. Individual trend lines can be toggled
to highlight comparisons of interest:

Being able to view trend data is a common requirement and is helpful in providing context to
the task at hand. Configuring a trendline for a Number input only requires ticking a checkbox.
The trendline will then be included next to the input, with a trend history pop-up available to
view the exact values and times of previous inputs:

This feature is available for Number and Integer input types. The y-axis range can be set,
but defaults to fit the current range of values. The number of days of data included in the
trend history can also be configured.

External Data Refresh

External Data can be refreshed from a j5 Mobile enabled device. Tag data, Charts, spark
lines, imported j5 IndustraForm Template data and more can be updated while online:

As with the desktop j5 IndustraForm Template, refreshing External Data updates data across
the entire j5 IndustraForm Template, not just the currently viewed j5 Mobile Section.

Attachments

Photographs and short videos captured on a j5 Mobile enabled device can be added to
attachment fields. Any other attachments added on the desktop or attached to the j5
IndustraForm Template in the j5 IndustraForm Designer, are also available on the j5 Mobile
enabled device, whether online or offline. Attachments can be added on the j5 Mobile
enabled device while offline. These will sync up automatically when a connection is restored:

Rich Text

Rich Text fields with their text and styling can be viewed on j5 Mobile enabled devices. j5
Mobile users can also edit the text of these fields, but not the styling:

Hierarchy Select

Hierarchical data can now be selected on j5 Mobile enabled devices. This can be used, for
example, to select Operational Areas or multi-level Categories, such as j5 Operations
Logbook Categories:

Manual Carry Over

There are situations where carrying values over from a previous j5 IndustraForm Template is
helpful, but user confirmation is still necessary, such as when performing j5 Inspection
Rounds. A j5 IndustraForm Template carry over is available to cater for this. The previous
value is shown as a suggestion but is only set once the user confirms the value by selecting
the check mark, or enters a new value:

The following field Types support manual carry over:

• Text
• Integer
• Number
• Date
• DateTime Choice

Choice Filtering

j5 Mobile users can filter j5 IndustraForm Template Choice lists by entering text that matches
part of their intended Choice. This allows users to effectively choose from many items, such
as a list of users.

Section Features

Repeating Sections and Sub-Sections can have new instances added or removed. This
makes it easy for j5 Mobile users to record extra information while in the field, such as
comments, notes, and even service request or j5 Operations Logbook information that can
be processed once synced to the j5 Operations Management Software server:

If a j5 IndustraForm Template Section has been specifically configured to support this, j5
Mobile will allow users to select Submit for that Section even when offline. This Section
submission will then be synchronized to the j5 Operations Management Software server
when next online.

Note: If the j5 IndustraForm Template Section has been changed after the offline
submission, or a Section is changed offline but submitted to the j5 Operations Management
Software server by someone else before the sync takes place, a flag will be added to
indicate that a user needs to decide to resubmit the Section with the combined changes.

j5 Mobile also supports j5 IndustraForm Template Sections that are configured not to have a
Submit button.

Barcode Scanning

Navigating within a j5 IndustraForm Template on a j5 Mobile enabled device is much easier
when using the Barcode Scanning feature. When a user scans a barcode, the j5 Mobile
applicationnavigates to the corresponding position in the j5 IndustraForm Template. This is
particularly useful in j5 Applications such as j5 Inspection Rounds or j5 Permit to Work, when
working with lots of equipment. Both camera-based and laser scanners can be used on
supported j5 Mobile devices, provided the laser scanners support keyboard input mode:
