ARAÚJO FÁBIO FEITOSA JULIO FERNANDES DE JESUS APRESENTAÇÃO Este material, relacionado à crioterapia, está totalmente baseado no capítulo “Crioterapia: teoria e prática baseadas em evidências”, de autoria de Christiane de Souza Guerino Macedo e Rinaldo Roberto de Jesus Guirro. Este capítulo é parte integrante do Ciclo 3 do PROFISIO Programa de Atualização em Fisioterapia Esportiva e traumato-ortopédica, de 2013. CRIOTERAPIA É a utilização de gelo, ou de outras modalidades de resfriamento, com objetivos terapêuticos. Os efeitos esperados com a utilização da crioterapia são: Analgesia (abaixo de 14,4ºC); Controle do edema e processo inflamatório; Diminuição da taxa metabólica, do fluxo sanguíneo e da velocidade de condução nervosa; Recuperação pós exercício. PASTRE et al., 2009; BUSARELLO et al., 2011 EFEITOS FISIOLÓGICOS Redução: da velocidade de condução nervosa; da produção de mediadores de dor; da dor muscular tardia; do metabolismo e do fluxo sanguíneo; da lesão secundária por hipóxia, formação de edemas e hemorragia; PASTRE et al., 2009; BUSARELLO et al., 2011 ATENÇÃO A crioterapia produz uma severa redução na condução nervosa após 20 minutos de aplicação. Isso faz com que haja um déficit no controle motor, tornando o atleta mais susceptível a lesões articulares. WANG et al., 2010. MÉTODOS DE APLICAÇÃO Sacos ou toalhas com gelo picado; Compressas de gel; Compressas químicas; Imersão; Massagem com gelo; Spray químico, entre outros. MACEDO e GUIRRO, 2013 SUGESTÃO DE APLICAÇÃO Pacotes de gelo: utilizar o conceito PRICE, com aplicação de gelo entre 20 a 30 minutos, nas lesões traumáticas agudas. Repetir a cada 2 horas; Crioimersão: temperaturas da água de 10ºC a 15ºC, com imersão de 5 a 24 minutos. Este uso tem sido apontado como um bom método de prevenção de dor tardia e de lesões após atividade esportiva, nos membros inferiores. Criosparay: aplicar por poucos segundos, a uma distância de 10 cm ou mais para evitar a necrose tecidual.
