TEXT 1 – Read the life history below carefully and, then, do the activities.
Considered one of Mexico's greatest artist, Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in the house of her parents, known as The Blue House. He father was a German descendant and photographer that had immigrated to Mexico where he met and married her mother Matilde. Her mother was half Amerindian and half Spanish. Then, when she was only five years old she had the polio, suffering a lot. In 1922, Frida Kahlo attended the renowned National Preparatory School in Mexico city. She had been studying Arts there for some time until she had a terrible accident. In 1925, on a september afternoon, Frida was traveling home from school, when she almost died in a bus crash. After that, she started painting, because she had become bedridden. Four years later, when she was receiving a prize for her work, she met the painter Diego Rivera and got married.

In 1938, Frida Kahlo became/was becoming friend of Andre Breton, who is one of the primary figures of Surrealism movement. Frida said she had never considered herself as a Surrealist before "until André Breton came/had come to Mexico and told me I was one." She also wrote/was writing, "Really I do not know whether my paintings are surrealist or not, but I do know that they are the frankest expression of myself". Frida’s subjects were her sensations, states of mind and the profound reactions that life had been producing/produced in her since the accident. In the same year, she had/was having an exhibition at New York City gallery when she sold some of her paintings and got two commissions.
