It talks about facts or
things that are generally
true.
Some examples:
- If you heat water, it
boils
 - If ice-cream gets
warm, it melts. 
- When the temperature
is 0°C, it snows.
 [If + present] + [will]
It talks about a particular
possible future event or
situation.
Some examples:
- If you punish them, you
will have to explain why.
- If her husband has been
lazy, she will talk to him.
- Unless/ as long as you
work hard, you will not
pass the exam.
