1. A work health and safety management system is used to help organisations plan and put into place policies and procedures to improve the health and safety of employees at work. What are the needs of your organisation? Think about the form, content, purposes and functions of a WHSMS, the WHS policy and plan. (10 marks)
Our company needs to eliminate risks in order to provide a safe and healthy place for our workers and customers. Using WHSMS help to reduce the number of health and injury incidents at work, as this includes practices to ensure:
Availability of instructions, information, training and supervision to guarantee the health and safety of workers.
Adequate facilities for employee well-being.
Adequate management of incidents or accidents and notification to government regulators of health and safety at work.
Insurance:
• installations, including the provision of safe inputs and outputs
• machinery, equipment and materials
• workplace.
• work systems
For our company, in the identification, evaluation and risk management, to follow fully the management guidelines, since these are directly related to the WHSMS.
Some of our guidelines include:
Comply with all appropriate laws and regulations in the areas where we operate;
Conduct all activities in the worksite in a way that supports safe and practical work;
Risks for our workers, customers and the environment;
Implement training, programs and internal controls necessary to achieve these objectives;
It is essential that occupational health and safety are in a readily available format for all employees.
In our company they are available printed, we have specific posters and leaflets;
in each area of work and the hazards involved.
4. Give examples of barriers to WHSMS implementation and strategies to overcome them. (10 marks)
Some of the obstacles to implementing WHSMS include:
people who neglect health and safety because they do not believe that it is their responsibility;
security is expensive to implement;
prevention reaction;
not consulting staff;
Excess Excessive system complication.;
Planning meetings with individuals and parties on the WHSMS and its implementation is a useful method for consultation and discussion of the process. A voting system can be used to inform stakeholders about key business needs and also lets you explain why these actions are needed and the benefits they can bring to the organization and to employees. When you have excellent communication and provide the right information about the benefits to the company and workers, the implementation is more likely to be supported.
When it comes to health and safety in the workplace It is essential to consult all people who may have an impact on the health and safety of the company. This is very significant as it gives everyone in the organization the chance to share their opinions and contribute to a discussion n WHS issues. A safer and healthier work environment is easier to reach when everyone is involved and feels part of the process.
