In order to assess the influence of tool texture on built-up edge (BUE) stabilisation, Kümmel et al. [12] investigated the wear of laser-textured uncoated carbide tools (ISO grade K10) during dry turning of normalised SAE 1045 carbon steel. Cutting parameters were selected to provide the formation of BUE. Three types of textures were produced on the tool rake face: mesh with dimples, perpendicular channels, and channels parallel to the cutting edge. The texture with dimples decreased flank wear by 19 μm after cutting 4030 m. The same texture generated a BUE larger and more stable than the other configurations.
