O objetivo de uma bomba submersa é transferir ou recircular fluidos. Ela é utilizada em ramos industriais como química e bombeamento de fluidos. A bomba submersa apresenta ganhos em altura manométrica, redução de efeitos de cavitação e redução de entrada de ar no sistema. Os pontos negativos são o acesso para manutenção e o espaço que deve ser reservado para instalação e manutenção. A bomba não submersa é localizada acima do nível da água do poço, o que pode causar danos e mau funcionamento se o ar entrar no sistema devido ao mau funcionamento da válvula de pé. Os pontos positivos são facilidade de manutenção e espaço útil.
