Plato distinguishes four levels of knowledge that range from inferior to superior: belief, opinion, reasoning, and intellectual intuition. The first two form what he calls sensible knowledge, the last two intelligible knowledge. According to him, the first two levels offer only the appearance of things, while the last two levels should be considered valid. Aristotle distinguishes seven levels of knowledge: sensation, perception, imagination, memory, language, reasoning, and intuition. While Plato conceived knowledge as the abandonment of an inferior level for a superior one, Aristotle considered it continuously formed and enriched by the accumulation of information brought by all levels. For Aristotle, in the first six levels, knowledge is obtained by induction or deduction.
