O turismo no Brasil tem uma história rica e diversa. Desde a chegada dos portugueses, os hábitos europeus foram trazidos pela corte, causando grandes transformações na vida e no cotidiano das pessoas. As mudanças sociais, culturais e econômicas que afetaram o país ao longo dos anos influenciaram diretamente a tipologia das ofertas hoteleiras, criando diversos meios de hospedagem. O desenvolvimento econômico do Brasil com a implementação do Plano Real foi um dos principais motivos para o crescimento do mercado de turismo no país, já que com o desenvolvimento da nova moeda brasileira, implementada em 1º de julho de 1994, o Brasil cresceu socioeconômica. A evolução dos transportes aquáticos, ferroviários, terrestres e aéreos favoreceu o desenvolvimento de várias modalidades de turismo, já que todas as atividades turísticas dependem de viagens, e essas devem ser feitas por meio de meios de transporte seguros e confortáveis. O crescimento do setor hoteleiro, após a criação da EMBRATUR (Empresa Brasileira de Turismo) em 1966, foi um dos setores que proporcionou e influenciou o crescimento do turismo no Brasil.
