ABSTRACT Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is considered a chronic disease with the highest prevalence of deaths in the world. This study aims to describe the educational role of the nurse for an early and effective detection of patients with Systemic Arterial Hypertension. This is an integrative literature review to elucidate the guiding question of how to make nursing care more effective for the early detection and control of SAH. Results show that intervention in modifiable factors of SAH is based on changing habits and lifestyles that contribute to the worsening of the disease. Therefore, health education should be prioritized by the nurse, highlighting the importance of healthy habits. Nurses can encourage self-care exercise. Educational practices should meet individual and family needs for greater adherence to non-drug and drug treatment by the SAH carrier. The nurse can collaborate significantly to improve the health conditions and quality of life of the SAH carrier. KEYWORDS: Hypertension; Nurse's Role; Primary Health.
