Instructions for discretionary APC waiver applications Waiver policy Open access journals published by Springer Nature offer article processing charge (APC) waivers and discounts to authors from low-income and lower-middle-income countries. Discretionary APC waivers will also be considered for other authors on a case-by-case basis, and may be granted in cases of financial need. All applications for discretionary APC waivers should be made prior to, or at the point of, manuscript submission; requests made during the review process or after acceptance will not be considered. Instructions for requesting a discretionary waiver Prospective authors who wish to be considered for a discretionary APC waiver should submit a request prior to, or at the point of submission to the journal, carefully following these instructions. The following manuscript details should also be provided: 1. You will also need to provide one of the following pieces of documentation relating to your APC funding situation: 3. Primary documentation of the corresponding author’s funding status and remaining grant funds. For each of the grants that you currently receive, or received while researching your article, please send scanned copies of original documents from your funders, containing details of: a. Funding agency b. Title of grant c. Names of grantees d. Allocation of grant funds e. Balance of available funds f. If you are not in receipt of any research funding please send a scanned copy of a letter from your head of department or head of finance, confirming that you are not currently in receipt of any research funding. This should be signed and printed on headed paper. Note: We only require documentation of funding (or lack thereof) relating to the research presented in this manuscript. Copies of these documents should be emailed to apcwaivers@springernature.com. We will be unable to proceed with a waiver application without full primary documentation of your funding status.
