1.1. TIP: A keyword is usually a noun (substantivo)! 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 3/18 1.2. Figura 1 - Lady Gaga. Fonte: Commons Lady Gaga Interview As she releases 'Born This Way', the woman who beat the bullies and conquered pop talks to Peter Robinson What did you nd out about yourself in writing these songs? ‘That being bullied stays with you your whole life, and no matter how many people are screaming your name or how many Number One hits you have, you can still wake up and feel like a loser .’ 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 4/18 Don’t you consider your success a massive ‘piss o!’ to the bullies? ‘Well, in order for me to be successful … In order to be a great artist – musician, actor, painter, whatever – you must be able to be private in public at all times. That is what we do.’ Okay… ‘I mean, I could elaborate… [miniature pause while she pretends she might not elaborate…] Unless I am both capable of and willing to reopen the wound every time I write a song , if I choose to not look inside myself to write music , I’m really not worth being called an artist at all.’ Who was your worst bully at school? ‘[Looks a bit wobbly] I… see… her… in my head. [Stops looking wobbly] There were a lot of bullies . You have to open the wound and pour salt and arsenic and poison in that wound and you must get out a needle and poke and prod then sew it back up again. And when I’m handed a beat that sounds amazing, that beat is the scissors, and then I cut the wound I’ve just sewn up, and I go back in. I go back in and I ask myself the same questions again and again and again : why am I here?’ And the answer is? ‘Because I MUST be here. Because I know it is my purpose to be an artist , but I have to go back over and over that wound , being bullied , feeling insecure , all things that recurred in my childhood and continue to recur through my career . You can’t look me in the eye and tell me I’m one of them: I know I’m not. And I never will be.’ One of 'them'? Who are 'they'? ‘The in-crowd. Right? I don’t really want to be one of them, yet it [the bullying ] aected me so deeply that I have to go in over and over and over again to write music .’ ‘If you were not bullied in high school I can imagine that it might be a bit dicult to be around us, because we kind of ock together. But there’s no discrimination . I mean if you were a cool kid at school , that doesn’t mean you’re not welcome. I’m not trying to further divisiveness. Those people who feel bullied or like nerds , I’m trying to make them feel like winners , but I’m not trying to make them hate all of the cool kids more. It’s all about closing the gap and bringing people closer together. And that’s what the pop end of my music is all about.’ Example: Text I New Study Shows That There Is No Link Between Violent Video Games And Aggression In Teenagers In yet another study on the subject, it shows that there is no link between playing violent video games and aggression in adolescents. 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 7/18 Courtesy of the Oxford Internet Institute and the University of Oxford , this new study was published in Royal Society Open Science and is being touted as being one of the most comprehensive studies on the subject to date. That is because this study used a combination of subjective and objective data to measure teen aggression and violence in games. Compared to previous research on the subject, which relied on self-reported data from teenagers, this study used information from parents and carers to judge the level of aggressive behavior in their children. […] The result of this thorough approach showed that there was no link between violent video games and teenage aggression, something that the lead researcher Professor Andrew Przybylski went on to clarify. [...] As Przybylski points out, this is not the rst study to show these kinds of results and it is getting to the point now, that blaming video games for outbursts of teenage related aggression holds no weight. However, he did admit that trash talking online and other such behavior warranted further study. Not to mention we have all the counter studies that actually show that playing video games has clear cognitive benets, so it really is about time that video games were no longer demonized as the cause for all of society’s woes and accepted for what they are. [opinião do autor do texto] (FORBES, 2019). Example: Text II 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 8/18 'Handbag Oscars': Bag made from seatbelts wins for Suolk designers Two friends have won an award for making bags from old seatbelts - using the proceeds to feed homeless people. The Leka tote was created by Charlotte Bingham-Wallis, 29, and Maria Costa, 29, who rst met while at Sudbury Upper School, Suolk. Figura 2 - Handbag made from seatbelts . Fonte: BBC. It has won the Best Green Bag of 2019 category at the Independent Handbag Designer Awards in New York. The tote was created from 10 metres of refurbished seatbelts, eight plastic bottles and scraps of old fabric. "Our winning bag is a symbol of how waste can be rejuvenated into new products," said Ms Bingham-Wallis, From Belo's director designer who also works part-time as a physiotherapist at Ipswich Hospital. She set up From Belo - a crowd-funded start-up - with her friend Maria Costa in January 2018. They manufacture the accessories in Brazil, where Costa now lives. [...] (BBC, 2019). Example: Text III Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. Everything was in confusion in the Oblonsky’s house. The wife had discovered that the husband was carrying on an intrigue with a French girl, who had been a governess in their family, and she had announced to her husband that she could not go on living in the same house with him. This position of aairs had now lasted three days , and not only the husband and the wife themselves, but all the members of their family and household, were painfully conscious of it. Every person in the house felt that there was no sense in their living together [...] (TOLSTOY, 2018.) Vejamos alguns examples, tirados dos textos já vistos na unidade: 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 10/18 Simple Past Text I ...That is because this study used a combination... Text II ...The Leka tote was created… / ... how waste can be rejuvenated into new product... 3.2. 1. Texto expositivo-argumentativo - connectors que expressam relação de causa e efeito, como: as, because, since. Example: Text I ...That is because this study used a combination of subjective and objective data to measure teen aggression and violence in games... 2. Texto expositivo-informativo/descritivo: ● conectores espaciais (f urther, above, below, ahead, where); de contraste (however, nevertheless, on the contrary, in contrast ) e os distributivos ( on one hand, on the other hand ). ● Conectores temporais ( while, when, throughout, during, since ) Examples: Text I ...where Costa now lives... 3. Texto expositivo-narrativo - presença de conectores temporais (rst, second, then, after that, nally, while). 3.3. Adjectives 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 12/18 O uso dos adjectives é bastante comum neste tipo de texto, uma vez que eles descrevem pessoas, fatos, animais, objetos, e para caracterizá-los bem, precisamos dos adjectives . Examples: Text I - comprehensive studies / aggressive behaviour Text II - Independent Handbag Designer Awards / refurbished seatbelts Text III - Happy families / unhappy family 4. 4.1. Example for text analysis Pelé A member of three Brazilian World Cup-champion teams, Pelé is considered by many to be the greatest soccer player of all time. Born on October 23, 1940 , in Três Corações, Brazil, soccer legend Pelé became a superstar with his performance in the 1958 World Cup. Pelé played professionally in Brazil for two decades , winning three World Cups along the way, before joining the New York Cosmos late in 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 13/18 his career . Named FIFA co-Player of the Century in 1999 , he is a global ambassador for soccer and other humanitarian causes. The origin of the "Pelé" nickname is unclear, though he recalled despising it when his friends rst referred to him that way. As an adolescent, Pelé joined a youth squad coached by Waldemar de Brito, a former member of the Brazilian national soccer team. De Brito eventually convinced Pelé's family to let the budding phenom leave home and try out for the Santos professional soccer club when he was 15. Soccer's National Treasure Pelé signed with Santos and immediately started practicing with the team's regulars. He scored the rst professional goal of his career before he turned 16, led the league in goals in his rst full season and was recruited to play for the Brazilian national team. The world was ocially introduced to Pelé in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. Displaying remarkable speed, athleticism and eld vision, the 17-year-old erupted to score three goals in a 5- 2 seminal win over France, then netted two more in the nals, a 5-2 win over the host country. Pelé aggravated a groin injury two games into the 1962 World Cup in Chile, sitting out the nal rounds while Brazil went on to claim its second straight title. Four years later , in England, a series of brutal attacks by opposing defenders again forced him to the sidelines with leg injuries, and Brazil was bounced from the World Cup after one round. Despite the disappointment on the world stage, the legend of Pelé continued to grow. [...] (BIOGRAPHY, 2019). 4.2.1. Perguntas de planejamento ( Questions ) Para escrever qualquer tipo de texto, o autor deve responder às seguintes questions: what, why, to whom, how (o quê?, por quê?, a quem? e como?). Quadro 1 – Questions for planning a text. 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 15/18 Fonte: Elaborado pela autora. 4.2.2. Parágrafos ( Paragraphs ) Todos os textos precisam obedecer à seguinte estrutura: introduction, body, conclusion. 1. Introduction (What?/Why?) → 1st paragraph: Main idea, key concepts. A ideia principal do texto deve estar no título e no 1st paragraph, para que seja facilmente identicada, e o leitor possa saber do que o texto trata. Além disso, os key concepts serão apresentados. 2. 07/06/2022 14:47 SU-BL2-EDU_DEULIN_19_E_2 https://student.ulife.com.br/ContentPlayer/Index?lc=yzJcBh5zXDyoxOY7FnAaNw%3d%3d&l=WqX2I%2f0%2fIK8%2bEiZP5qvGrw%3d%3d&cd… 16/18 → 3rd paragraph: Ampliar a reexão. 4. Title - o título deve, necessariamente, conter a main idea . 5.
