Place 8 queens on the copymaster chessboard so that they are safe from capture. (This means no more than 1 queen in any line: horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.) Use counters to represent the queens. Don’t give up – both puzzles can be solved! Cut your copy of the chessboard into four pieces that are identical in shape and size, each with a knight on it. You can’t move the knights. To help you, the diagram shows part of one of the pieces. The queen can move any number of squares in any direction. Amy’s grandmother gives her two very old puzzles to solve.
