Scanning, skimming e leituras críticas são diferentes estilos de 
leituras. Se você está procurando por informação, deve-se usar 
scanning para uma palavra específica. Se você está explorando 
ou revendo um documento deve-se usar a skimming.

 SKIMMING 
 
 promove uma leitura rápida do texto onde o leitor 
retira a “nata” do seu sentido. 
 Tal técnica permite o entendimento do sentido do 
texto, de cada parágrafo, e facilita a identificação 
de nomes, datas, lugares.

 SCANNING 
 
 O Scanning também oferece uma solução de leitura 
rápida, mas cujo foco é encontrar algo específico 
no texto. 
 Bortolotto (2010) afirma que Scanning funciona de 
forma semelhante aos aparelhos de digitalização, os 
scanners, pois se opera ao se “[...] mover os olhos 
de cima para baixo na página, procurando palavras 
chaves, frases especificas ou ideias.”.

 COGNATOS 
 
 Como parte da preparação para um melhor 
aproveitamento da leitura de um texto técnico, se 
faz necessário a identificação dos COGNATOS, 
que são termos em inglês que possuem grafia 
idêntica ou muito semelhante a sua forma em 
português e com mesmo significado.
