Inserção Curricular/Recomposição AULA 03 - ENGLISH PLURAL FORMS O plural dos substantivos em inglês em geral é bem simples. Como regra geral adicionamos o final “s”. EXEMPLO(S): car (carro) - cars (carros) toy (brinquedo) - toys (brinquedos) book (livro) - books (livros) No entanto, há algumas exceções e para fazermos o plural temos que utilizar algumas regras. Vejam: 1. Se o substantivo terminar em “y”, precedido de consoante, tira-se o “y” e acrescenta-se “ies”. EXEMPL(S): butterfly (borboleta) - butterflies (borboletas) city (cidade) - cities (cidades) baby (bebê) - babies (bebês) 2. Nos substantivos terminados em “f” ou “fe”, no singular, troca-se o “f” ou “fe” por “v” ou “ve” no plural e acrescenta-se “s”. EXEMPLO(S): shelf (prateleira) - shelves (prateleiras) knife (faca) - knives (facas) wife (esposa) - wives (esposas) 3. Nos substantivos terminados em “s, sh, ch, x, z, o”, acrescenta-se “es” para formar o plural. AULA 04 - ENGLISH COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS COUNTABLE NOUNS Os substantivos, em inglês, podem ser contáveis (countable nouns) e incontáveis (uncountable nouns). Os countable nouns são aquelas palavras usadas para coisas que podemos enumerar, ou seja, são substantivos que possuem uma forma tanto no singular quanto uma forma no plural. EXEMPLO(S): egg (ovo) - eggs (ovos) one cat (um gato) - two cats (dois gatos) UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS Os substantivos considerados incontáveis (uncountable nouns) são empregados para as coisas que não podemos enumerar. Nesse sentido, podemos incluir, aqui, ideias ou qualidades abstratas, bem como objetos físicos que são muito pequenos ou amorfos para serem contados (líquidos, pós, gases, etc.). Os substantivos incontáveis não têm uma forma no plural. EXEMPLO(S): oxygen (oxigênio) rice (arroz) luck (sorte) money (dinheiro) coffee (café) butter (manteiga) Vale mencionar que, em língua inglesa, há coisas que para eles são incontáveis e para nós são contáveis. Um exemplo é a palavra pão. Em inglês, bread é incontável, ou seja, nunca diga one bread, two breads,three breads… O melhor é dizer a roll of bread (um pão), two rolls of bread (dois pães), three rolls of bread (três pães) e assim por diante. Há outras palavras assim em inglês.
