WHAT IS FEMINISM?

Feminism is a political and social movement, a
political theory and a philosophical
perspective that, according to the RAE (Royal
Spanish Academy) postulates the "principle of
equal rights for women and men". In principle,
feminism fights for gender equality and for the
recognition of women as natural persons and
subjects of law.

WHAT IS CAPITALISM?
Capitalism is generally considered
an economic system in which
private agents own and control
property according to their
interests, and demand and supply
freely set prices in markets so that
they can serve the best interests
of society. It is characterized by a
greater male influence.

The beginnings of feminism date back to the end
of the 13th century, when Guillermine of
Bohemia proposed the creation of a women's
church. It is also said that it was born as part of
the feminist struggle of women preachers and
witches, but it is only in the mid-nineteenth
century when an organized and collective
struggle began.
Women participated in the great
historical events of the last centuries,
such as the Renaissance, the French
Revolution and the socialist revolutions,
but in a subordinate way. It was not until
suffragism that they claimed their
autonomy.

The struggle of women began to have
precise goals after the French
Revolution. Olympia de Gouges, in her
"Declaration of the Rights of Women
and the Citizen" (1791), affirms that the
"natural rights of women are limited by
the tyranny of man, a situation that
must be reformed according to the laws
of nature and reason", for which she
was guillotined by Robespierre's own
government, to which she adhered.

The United States and England
were the countries where this
movement had the greatest
strength and impact. The main
demand was the right to vote, from
which they hoped to achieve the
other conquests.

The regulatory state of capitalism of
the postwar era after World War II has
given way to a new form of
"disorganized," globalized, neoliberal
capitalism. Second wave feminism
emerged as a critique of the former,
but has become the servant of the
second one.

This current form of capitalism relies heavily
on women's wage labor. Especially on the
lower wage labor of services and
manufacturing, performed by all kinds of
women regardless of whether she is married,
has children, is single, or is of a different
race or ethnicity.

With the integration of women into labor
markets around the world, the family
wage ideal of regulatory state capitalism
is being replaced by the newer and more
modern norm, apparently sanctioned by
feminism.
