• HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT?
• Mae just woke up. From her room, she could hear 
the sound of her mother cooking. The smell of the 
bacon is really inviting. Mae jumped out of her 
bed. Without brushing her teeth or fixing her hair, 
she immediately ran downstairs. There on the 
table she sees all the American breakfast you could 
think of. Pancakes with syrup, toast with jam, 
bacon and sausages, coffee and tea. You name it. 
Their whole table is filled with delightful food. Mae 
could hear her stomach growling upon seeing 
everything. She goes to the table and grabbed a 
toast. Just as she’s about to eat, her mother walks 
in to take it from her. “Not yet! We have visitors 
coming.” Mae is disappointed. She almost had the 
toast. Now, she would have to wait for the visitors 
to arrive. Mae looks at the table. “How long do I 
have to wait?”

• Mae acabou de acordar. De seu quarto, ela podia 
ouvir o som de sua mãe cozinhar. O cheiro do 
bacon é realmente convidativo. Mae saltou da 
cama. Sem escovar os dentes nem arrumar os 
cabelos, logo correu para o andar de baixo. Lá na 
mesa ela vê todo o café-da-manhã americano que 
você poderia pensar. Panquecas com xarope, 
torradas com geleia, bacon e salsichas, café e chá. 
Você o nomeia. Sua mesa inteira está cheia de 
comida deliciosa. Mae podia ouvir seu estômago 
grunhindo ao ver tudo. Ela vai até a mesa e pega 
uma torrada. Assim que ela está prestes a comer, 
sua mãe entra para pegar a torrada dela. “Ainda 
não! Temos visitantes chegando. “Mae está 
desapontada. Ela quase comeu a torrada. Agora, 
ela teria de esperar que os visitantes chegassem. 
Mae olha para a mesa. “Quanto tempo eu tenho 
que esperar?”
