Texto 100. Collecting books.
COLLECTING BOOKS
• Joan loves collecting books. She has every kind of 
book. She collects novels, cookbooks, magazines, 
and educational books. One afternoon, when she 
was reading her favorite book, she found that 
some pages were missing. She counted the missing 
pages and found there were fifty missing. “Fifty 
pages of my book are missing!” Joan exclaimed. 
She tried hard to remember what she did to the 
book. She looked on her bookshelves to see if 
there were torn pages there. Joan got so distracted 
during the afternoon that she could not think 
properly. Dinner time came and still, Joan could’t
find the fifty missing pages. Unknowingly, Joan 
slept. And then she woke up. She found out that it 
was just a dream, a bad dream. She got out of bed 
and checked her book. The book sat on the table, 
complete and intact.
COLECIONANDO LIVROS
• Joan adora colecionar livros. Ela tem todo tipo de 
livro. Ela coleta romances, livros de culinária, 
revistas e livros educacionais. Certa tarde, quando 
estava lendo seu livro favorito, ela descobriu que 
algumas páginas estavam faltando. Ela contou as 
páginas desaparecidas e descobriu que faltavam 
cinquenta. “Cinquenta páginas do meu livro estão 
faltando!” Joan exclamou. Ela se esforçou para se 
lembrar do que ela fez com o livro. Olhou para as 
estantes de livros para ver se havia páginas 
rasgadas lá. Joan ficou tão distraída durante a tarde 
que não conseguia pensar direito. A hora do jantar 
chegou e ainda, Joan não conseguiu encontrar as 
cinquenta páginas ausentes. Sem saber, Joan 
dormiu. E então ela acordou. Ela descobriu que era 
apenas um sonho, um sonho ruim. Ela saiu da 
cama e verificou seu livro. O livro estava sobre a 
mesa, completo e intacto.
