Look at the title and headings in the article. Which of the suggestions for a first
- date can you do where you live?
(D 2
Maggie Carr suggests some great
land cheap!) ideas for a first date.
Planning a first date? Congratulations! Here are some
tips on things to do that are both fun and inexpensive.
Ideas
for a first date
1 See a movie I know, a movie is an obvious choice. But there are plenty of
ways vou can impress your date. First of all, let your date choose the movie.
And try to find a movie theater that has style, such as comfortable seats or an
interesting décor. And make sure Vou meet early- that way you'll have
time to get tickets to the movie Vou want!
2 Go ice skating-or roller b/ading If vou enjoy more active dates,
why not suggest ice skating or roller blading? If your date likes the
idea - go for it! It means that Vou both enjoy the same kinds of things.
And don't worry ifyou can't skate-sometimes it's fun to fall down!
3 F/y a kite Who says no one flies kites anymore? This is still a great
way to have fun at the park! If you're good at it, that's even better!
And if vou aren't-don't worry! Your lack of skill will make your date
laugh!
4 Go to the zoo Everyone likes animais, right? 50
a trip to the zoo makes an ideal first date. Vou can
impress your companion with your knowledge of
animallife-but first, make sure that Vou know
what you're talking about!
5 Have a picnic by a /ake or river Picnics are
fun-and ifyou're a good cook, why not make
the food yourself? If not, buying the right picnic
items is also a useful skill. But remember, choosing
the perfect picnic spot is criticaI. Pick a place where
there's a nice view and an opportunity for romance!

Architects are thinking about new ways to provide

Tra<k45 High Ii'e!
Sky City
Sky City is a dramatic idea for a place to
live-a mile-high building in Tokyo Bay. If they
build it, it will be the tallest building on earth,
twice as high as any other building.
This vertical city will have 560 floors, house
more than 35,000 people, and provide offices,
shops, schools, and even parks for another
100,000.
15 it possible to build it? Architects are
working on the plans, but if they succeed,
we may see a lot more really high residential
buildings. Who knows, in 50 years, we may all
live a mile off the ground!
Pyramid City
Pyramid City is another very ambitious project.
If they can build it, it will be more than half a
mile high, twelve times higher than the Egyptian
pyramids. Inside the main pyramid, there will be
55 smaller pyramids.
If it is built, the pyramid will have 80 floors.
Three quarters of a million people willlive there.
A high-speed transport system will connect the
series of skyscrapers inside the pyramid. Spider
robots will build parts of it. Waves and wind will
power it.
One major problem is that )apan is on the "Ring
of Fire" - a zone of frequent earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions around the Pacific Oceano The
area contains 75 per cent of the world's volcanoes.
Pyramid City will have to resist earthquakes,
tsunamis, and underwater volcanic activity.
The designers of Pyramid City are certain that
they can build it, but it may not be possible for
another 100 years.
