The term Black Africans, therefore, refers to a number of different ethnic groups in South Africa. The term Coloureds, which in the United States or England might refer to people who are black, in South Africa is applied to people who come from a combination of ethnic backgrounds: black, white, Khoisan6, Griqua, Malay. The Asians are mostly Indian, many descended from indentured workers brought in the 19th century, though there are some people from China, Vietnam, and other Asian countries. The whites are of European descent, notably Dutch and English.”
