CAE Simuflite Inc. M-1 STUDENT VISA PROCESS (Updated July 23, 2024) M-1 Student Visa Process PRE-ARRIVAL Once you receive your Form I-20, make sure that your name and date of birth are correctly listed and spelled. The information should be identical to your passport. The Form I-20 is the primary document to show that you have been admitted to school in the United States and that you are authorized to apply for admission to the United States in M-1 class of admission. You must always have your Form I-20 with you. If you lose your Form I-20 or the course dates have changed, you must request a new one from your designated school official (DSO). You will need to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee ($350 USD) online at www.fmjfee.com. This fee is required, and you will not be eligible to apply for a visa without first making the payment. A prospective F or M student with a country of citizenship or country of birth of Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, or Gambia must pay by money order, Western Union Quick Pay or certified check drawn from a U.S. bank. After paying the I-901 fee and getting a receipt, you can apply for a visa at any American Embassy or Consulate. The following links will assist with this process: https://travel.state.gov//content/travel/en.html or https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/study/student-visa.html To obtain your M-1 Visa & Interview: You will need to complete an application form, DS-160 and pay the $185 fee (USD) (effective May 30, 2023), which can be done online (this may take approximately 90 minutes). Once completed you will be able to schedule the interview at the selected US Embassy. Please be sure to print and take to your Visa interview. https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/default.aspx ARRIVING Before you leave for the United States, you should make a copy of these documents and leave with your family or friends (Passport, Visa, Form I-20). These (original) documents will need to be presented to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at the port of entry. It is important to know you must enter the U.S. on your M-1 Visa; it is required for this course. Once the CBP Officer determines that a foreign national is eligible to enter the United States, the Form 1-94, Arrival-Departure Record show the date of the individual's arrival in the United States, the class of admission of the individual, and the date when the authorized period of stay expires. https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home WHILE IN THE UNITED STATES It is important to maintain your student (M-1) status. You are required to provide your hotel address and room number at the start of class. If you change hotels, become ill, or are having an immediate problem and need assistance, contact your SEVIS Designated School Official immediately. If you do not complete your training or need to extend your stay or intend to depart the United States before the end of your course, you must notify a DSO immediately. DEPARTURE Once you have completed your training event, please let your SEVIS DSO know when you are planning to leave the country. You will have 30 days to leave the country. This closure is required in your SEVIS record to maintain compliance with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security. Please note: If attending an Initial, Upgrade, or Experienced course, the current M-1 Visa may be used again, but a new SEVIS I-20 will be required for each use/entry into the United States, the DSO at CAE will issue a new SEVIS I-20, if needed / applicable. The B1/2 Visa or ESTA would be the appropriate entry for Recurrent training; the M-1 Visa may NOT be used for Recurrent course. The C1/D visa is not a valid visa for flight training.
