UNIVERSIDADE FUMEC FACULDADE DE ENGENHARIA E ARQUITETURA - FEA Níkolas Brandão Bilalis INGLÊS DE AVIAÇÃO I: Glass cockpit Belo Horizonte Outubro de 2015 Níkolas Brandão Bilalis INGLÊS DE AVIAÇÃO I: Glass Cockpit Trabalho autoinstrucional, apresentado à Faculdade de Engenharia e Arquitetura da Universidade Fumec como requisito parcial para a conclusão da disciplina Inglês de Aviação I. Belo Horizonte Outubro de 2015 RESUME The glass cockpit technology was implemented by the middle of the 2000 with the intention of make the cockpit a more “clean” and organized place. It will be seen the reaction in the general aviation field of the new implemented technology and the improvements that it brought. SUMMARY Introduction........................................................................................................04 Glass cockpit......................................................................................................05 Conclusion.........................................................................................................06 References.........................................................................................................07 4 INTRODUCTION Since the glass cockpit was implemented with his very useful and kind of revolutionary innovations, some levels of aircraft accidents that was using the glass cockpit has enhanced. The present work seeks to find out why and how to deal with it. 5 GLASS COCKPIT It is a digital primary flight displays technology. Its development started with the NASA after that in the 70's, the aircrafts cockpits was getting too full of bars, indicators and symbols which were competing by the pilot's attention. In mid-2000 was released in large use in executive jets and military aircrafts. The implementation of this technology has as advantage the fact that it contributes to decrease the used space in the cockpit and make it more organized. By the other side has as disadvantages facts like the possibility of the whole system turn off letting the pilots without any information as has happened in several episodes, and the new system isn't so easy to manage. How it was studied, is needed an effective training about how to operate the system. So the crew can manage well the complete functionality of the glass cockpit technology, as to know how to behave in failure situations. A study of the NTSB showed that after the massive implantation of the glass cockpit in light aircrafts in USA which occurred after 2003, the numbers of accidents involving aircrafts with glass cockpit was much greater than aircrafts equipped with the usual instruments. The causes were assigned to the facts just mentioned above, possibility of failure and lack of training. Today, to better this scenario the responsible authorities for the subject are requiring the manufacturers provide appropriate manuals and pushing for the proper training occur. About the technology, nowadays, the thing is evolving, like everything else. There is the G1000, is one type of glass cockpit whose configurations are adaptable at a lot of hardware and software, in other words, it can be used by several types of aircrafts. Others recent technology innovations are the Primus Epic, Datalink and Pro Line Fusion, don’t mentioning that all of these current systems are made with touch screen technology. These cited innovations are between other things respectively able of give a infrared vision of the terrain to pilots, enhance the communication in remotes areas of the world, giving flight data to flight controllers as the radars do, and provide the most important flight information to the pilot in the horizon line, just in front of him, avoiding the need of down the eyes for check. 6 CONCLUSION After studying the glass cockpit was possible to realize that this technology is a good advance in aviation world despite of the accidents that occurred involving the very same technology, once the causes of the failures was identified and worked aiming to have the problem solved, highlighting that the established procedures to make a good use of it, which are to have the proper study and training, must be followed. . 7 REFERENCES KOLLY, J.
